Mission: Provide physician services in areas that are insufficiently served. Continued on schedule o. Mission medical associates mission is to provide physician services in predominantly rural areas that are insufficiently served, thereby improving the health care of the general public. In many cases this involves recruiting and placing primary care physicians, as well as pediatric and adult specialty services close to where people live and work.
Programs: The organization provided physician services in specialty practices including anesthesia, behavioral health, cardiology, children's dental, hospitalist/emergency, infectious disease, neonatology, neurology, orthopedic trauma, orthopedics, palliative care/hospice, pediatrics, primary care (internal and family medicine), psychiatry, trauma surgery, urgent care, and weight management. Across all specialties there were 191 new providers, with 54 of them in hospitalist/emergency and 53 of them in anesthesia. The organization served over 158,000 patients at 39 practice locations. Benefits to the community included over $5. 7 million in charity care based on foregone charges. See schedule o for additional program service accomplishments. Other accomplishments of the organization's individual physicians which include volunteering in the local community and recognition for excellence and quality of healthcare service are highlighted below. An orthopedic and infectious disease provider received 5 star recognition by professional research consultants (prc) national excellence in healthcare and was presented with service excellence awards from mission. The top performer award is prc's highest honor and is given annually to each healthcare facility that scores at or above the 100th percentile for the overall quality of care percent "excellent" score in prc's national client database. A developmental-behavioral pediatric specialist again participated with the international hospital for children in the annual pediatric spina bifida evaluation clinics in belize, central america. A clinical geneticist provider volunteered services to a medical clinic in haiti which provides care to the poor. Several physicians donated their time to the medical ministry of the asheville-buncombe county christian ministry serving uninsured and underinsured residents of buncombe county. Providers from the anesthesia group participated in a week long surgery mission trip to guatemala where 150 surgeries were performed. Infectious disease providers hosted a symposium where interesting id cases were presented. Several cardiologists, orthopedic physicians, pediatric providers, and primary care physicians provided community education across western north carolina including sports physicals and screenings for athletes at local schools.
the organization expanded its buncombe county anesthesia services into macon, mcdowell, and mitchell counties. Across all locations 53 new providers were added consisting of 13 md's and 40 crna's. The organization served over 40,700 patients across all four counties.
