Amandla is an excellent school doing remarkable things in the toughest of circumstances. Its data driven curriculum and extended school day has allowed its 7th graders to jump ahead 1.6 years in growth in reading and 2.1 years of growth in math. On the state tests more than 80% of 6th graders met state standards in math, 76% in reading, 5th Grade, 59% in math, 56% in reading, 7th grade: 78% in math, 73% in reading and 71% in science. Amandla outperforms its Englewood neighbor schools on test scores even though it's housed in the same building as a CPS school. It's the people, not the place that makes Amandla great.
