Mission: The mission of Alzheimer''s Services of Northern Indiana, Inc., a not-for-profit, voluntary organization, is fourfold: 1) to provide patient and families with support, information, education and referral services; 2) to educate the public and health care professionals about Alzheimer''s disease and other related disorders; 3) to advocate for improved public policy for patients, family members and other caregivers; 4) to promote research into the cause and cure of Alzheimer''s disease and other related disorders.
Programs: Helpline - provides information about the disease, care-giving and referrals (approx. 2,000 calls/year); Support Groups - assist caregivers in decision-making, handling fears and emotions, managing day-to-day activities (over 2,500 participants/year); Newsletter - geared to family caregivers (over 20,000 copies/year); Speaker's Bureau - provide information to general public, business/church groups, healthcare facilities, police/fire personnel (over 17,000 attendees/year); Family Assistance - case-management (about 33 families currently served); Caregiver's Orientation -education for family caregivers (about 150 trained during past year); Sadie Mager Respite Care Fund - provide grants for patient care while caregiver gets a break; Edwin Bozenski Memorial Fund - financial assistance for late-stage care products; Loan/Purchase Library - printed, audio, and video materials; Advocates Network - provides information to grass-roots network of caregivers, professionals and others interested in tracking and influencing federal and state policy issues (especially research funding)
