Programs: The Desert Southwest Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association's programs include: Helpline - offers 24/7 telephone assistance to individuals, family caregivers, and professionals, providing information, support and referrals to local resources. We also offer a wide range of educational materials to caregivers. Family Care Consultation provides individualized assessment, guidance on caregiving options, interventions and resources to address immediate needs and help families plan for the future. This confidential service offers ongoing support throughout the course of the disease, free of charge to families. Our staff is available by phone and/or through scheduled office or home visits. Education Programs are designed to increase awareness and knowledge about the disease. Topics of these practical sessions include introductions to the disease, addressing behavioral challenges, planning for placement and much more. We also offer a variety of education programs for professionals and caregiving staff. Support Groups for family caregivers, led by trained facilitators, offer peer support and ideas, and help build new skills. MedicAlert + Safe Return® is a nationwide identification and education program that addresses the high risk of wandering among persons with Alzheimer?s disease. The program mobilizes the first responder network when registered individuals are missing. Scholarships are available to eligible families to assist with the initial fee for enrollment. Public Policy-Advocacy is the art of turning experiences that individuals with Alzheimer's face into solutions that help all people affected by the disease. We are actively involved in developing and monitoring both federal and state legislation and in empowering advocates to speak out on health-related issues.
