Mission: Alma's mission is to provide participants and the general public of puerto rico with education on consumer budgeting, consumer buying practices and managing consumer debt to improve the individual's understanding of their financial problems and to improve their ability to address those problems, and to provide debt counseling services for financial distressed consumers, including but not limited to negotiating with creditors to arrange for repayment programs.
Programs: During the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017, 7,650 consumers in puerto rico contacted the corporation and received credit counseling services, and approximately 9,000 consumers accessed the educational materials posted in alma's internet web site during this period. Educational and community activities conducted by the san juan office during this period included monthly workshops held at alma's premises in san juan, as well as seminars and workshops provided under the agreement signed with the department of education of puerto rico at 14 public high schools, located in aibonito, san lorenzo, canovanas, san juan, carolina luquillo, vieques, penuelas, gurabo, bayamon. Seminars and workshops were also conducted at the educational fair at the hotel el convento in san juan, and the educational fair in canovanas. Additionally, alma conducted workshops and seminars for government employees at the municipality of canovanas, the programa de ayuda a la mujer in san juan, and to employees of the municipality of carolina.
