Mission: The Family Alliance (previously known as the Alliance for Families & Children) is a regional nonprofit founded in 1909, dedicated to serving residents of Central Virginia. We are a United Way partner agency. Our mission is to strengthen families for success. Our services include: loans for the purchase of a car to maintain employment, child abuse prevention, substance abuse prevention, budget assistance and support services, mental health counseling, anger management, and support for first-time and teen parents through home visitation.
Programs: Our financial support services include Credit Counseling(helps families establish budgets, repay debts and avoid bankruptcy) and Ways to Work(provides loans of up to $4000 to allow a parent to purchase a car in order to maintain employment.)Our Family Development Services include home visits and other support for first-time or teen parents and a full range of counseling services including private and group settings.Our Prevention Services include the implementation of various curriculums in the middle school and alternative school settings, as well as several youth groups in which teenage members are given the opportunity to grow as a leader of their peers. We also offer free parenting classes to families throughout Central Virginia through the Child Abuse Prevention Center.Youth Employment Services center around "Youth Works," a program for at-risk youth to assist in completing high school/GED, job skills training, employment placement. Early Childhood Development Services focus on the Child Care Resource Center which offers a resource for parents looking for quality child care and a source for training and information for child care providers.
