Mission: The Alliance was founded in 1986 to promote medical and behavioral research into the aging process. Since then, and as the explosion of the Senior Boom approaches, the Alliance has become the voice for Baby Boomer health by developing, implementing and advocating programs in research, professional and consumer health education and public policy. The Alliance is continuously working to encourage a greater national investment in biomedical research and new technologies that could lead to a healthy, vigorous, productive old age for a greater number of older Americans.
Programs: As a core part of its mission, the Alliance develops and implements several national health education campaigns for health professionals and the public on conditions that disproportionately affect the elderly. These campaigns are focused on the latest and most up-to-date research breakthroughs. Current program topics include postmenopausal women's health, pain management, age-related macular degeneration, osteo-arthritis, and end-of-life issues, among others. The Alliance for Aging Research also educates policy makers, their staff and other key leaders affecting health care and biomedical research policy. The Alliance does so through holding hearings, producing reports, and by working closely with decision makers. All of the Alliance for Aging Research?s activities are supported by its award winning website. The site has served as an important resource in providing policy makers, consumers and physicians with timely and important health information. The site actively educates its users on diseases and research breakthroughs. In addition the site educates consumers about the current landscape of health policy and the importance of consumers serving as an advocate for their own health and that of their family
