AART provides an outstanding service to the community. Eligible children (i.e., "gap" kids who do not qualify for headstart, but are otherwise not attending preschool) attend free of charge for two 1.5 hour sessions per week. They are provided a book free every week.
Class curriculum is planned and managed by a professional preschool teacher, and assisted by a professional aide and multiple adult volunteers. The result is that children receive individualized instruction and to a much greater extent than would occur in a typical preschool.
The program focuses on 4 year olds who will be entering kindergarten the following year, and most of whom are learning English as a 2nd language.
This program provides kids who otherwise would have no preschool experience a service which enables them to be kindergarten ready and fit in to traditional kindergarten on day one.

Programs: Area at-risk preschool children were mentored in school readiness skills by senior adults. Skills covered include color, letter, shape and number recognition, gross and fine motor skills and socialization skills.
