I started volunteering 7 years ago and have learned so much about horses and have made many great friends. The transformation that happens from when a malnourished, neglected horse arrives to when they find their forever home is not only rewarding but the reason I continue volunteering and getting more involved.

It is inspiring to see the transformation the horses go through while in the care of AAE. The care and attentiveness of all the volunteers and leadership all devoted to the mission. There is so much heart!! I have been volunteering with this organization for 8 years. I started with barn shifts, then outreach, fundraising and now as a board member I see all parts of the organization. I have been volunteering at AAE for 11 years. This is a wonderful place to volunteer. The director who truly cares for all the animals that come in - some of which would have been put down at other facilities - are given a fighting chance at AAE. You cry at the sight of some of them at intake but after the awesome care they get - from the volunteers to the vets and farriers - you celebrate their transformation. Everyone really cares and it shows. This is a place of love and caring.

Over the years their have been some very hard cases come thru the gates, but the transformation is so amazing. While at AAE the animals get the love, all the care they need. The founder Wendy is like a horse whisperer. She can gain their trust when it seems like no one else can - its great to watch her with them. From the babies to the seniors, from the weak to the strong - each one has their own unique personalities and love to let you know. This place is good for the soul - animal and human alike. This is a fantastic place to volunteer. i've had many favorites over the years, and it makes you happy when they find their forever home. The people are fantastic, friendly - helpful. I have worked as a volunteer for AAE for over 2 years now, choosing to volunteer for a horse rescue because of my love of animals but having no real horse experience. Over the last few years I have seen many horses arrive in heart breaking condition, many on the verge of starvation and others with serious medical problems. Almost all have been accommodated, loved, fed, and nursed back to health. A least one did not, an old race horse that was just skin and bones. She was one tall horse! At first she had no energy and could barely eat but as she progressed back to health and gained weight she proved to be a sassy old broad with a real mischievous sense of humor. Who would have figured this old gal had it in her? What a great horse! Unfortunately, she had just too many complications and did not make it. But, thanks to the AAE volunteers, her last months of life were comfortable, well fed, in the company of other horses, and she was given plenty of love. We miss you Gabby!

My husband and I have been volunteering for AAE for nearly a year now. We LOVE it! Our son saw how much we enjoyed the ranch and now he is also a volunteer. Of course, we love the horses and other animals at the ranch, that's why we wanted to volunteer. What we didn't know is that we would meet some amazing people that we now call our friends.

It is a fulfilling experience to get to know these amazing animals. Each has it's own personality and therefore, we have a different relationship with each of the animals. Some are loving and kind, others are a little more guarded but still like the attention we give them. Some are a little uncomfortable with people when they first arrive. These horses are the most fun to watch as they transform at the ranch. With all the love and care the horses get, they begin to trust humans more and it is rewarding to see the transformation and be a small part of it.

I can't say enough good things about AAE. The leadership is hands on and very kind. They show their appreciation for our time as volunteers and are always ready to jump in and do what it takes to get the job done. Even when it's rainy, cold, and oh, so muddy! LOL

We are so grateful for our time at AAE and look forward to a long future ahead as volunteers.

I'm very proud to be a part of All About Equine. This organization is exceptional. Mostly volunteer-run, everyone does their part, and more, to care for the horses, support efforts at the the ranch and beyond, and make sure that every part of this organization runs smoothly. AAE takes in horses in-need, often the most vulnerable horses in the community. Each horse is treated as an individual, receiving excellent care, re-training and matched with just the right adoptive home. AAE provides permanent sanctuary for those horses that cannot be adopted.
All About Equine takes their role in the equine rescue community very seriously. AAE is fiscally responsible and transparent, provides proactive education programs, and strives to set an example for responsible and compassionate care of horses and all animals.

Mini's, goats, donkeys, etc. I enjoyed my time there and saw first hand how committed leadership is with taking care of their animals in their care. They help them get whatever medical treatment needed and necessary care so they can hopefully be adopted someday. This is a tremendous organization that is well founded and organized. 10 years ago my daughter talked me into going to an orientation at All About Equine. I only went to support her. I had no intentions of actually going around horses. By the end of orientation I was so enchanted by the organization nd their mission I was begging to sign up for a shift. 5 years ago I adopted my first AAE horse. When I had a late night emergency with her the director of AAE not only helped me get my girl to the hospital but held my hand through the terrible news of losing her. She continued to support me through that loss and helped heal my heart by encouraging me to try again. I am forever grateful for everything AAE does to help horses and humans in need. After my husband passed away in 2008 and after back surgery in 2010 I was referred to All About Equine to help with the office and clerical needs by someone who I had worked with previously in a horseback therapeutic non-profit which closed. I wanted to get back to the "up close and personal" contact with horses again although I could no longer perform some of the physical tasks I had done previously. In September 2011 I began clerical/computer/photography work with AAE. It started slowly with the Thank You notes. I now do a lot of the computer work at home, banking and office organization at the barn. During these years I have seen horses come and go, babies born and grown and adoptions. So many adoptions. Primarily success stories of these abused and scared and malnourished horses coming in and being brought back to heath, learning to trust humans again and provide enormous satisfaction in knowing these lives are saved and many by our volunteers themselves. Those tiny steps of progress can bring tears to my eyes knowing that finally one horse has learned to trust again. There are no words to describe the joy and fulfillment I feel every time I go out and see our horses, meet our fantastic volunteers and continue to admire the compassion and dedication that Wendy (CEO) has put into this program. And I feel that I am, too, making a difference in the lives of these equines.

I have been a volunteer with All About Equine for close to three years, and adopted an AAE horse this winter. Wendy, the director, was incredibly supportive of myself and her horses as she asked thoughtful questions about my goals and experience before recommending a horse for my family to adopt. She found us a perfect match and we absolutely adore the lovely mare who has become a member of our family. Wendy is always eager to hear stories about how our girl is doing, and to answer questions about her care and training. I am constantly impressed by the dedication and kindness shown by AAE leadership and volunteers. The hard work is a constant, as is the infinite reward of knowing that an animal in need is receiving the care and security required to have a healthy and peaceful life. The horses come from a wide variety of circumstances ranging from owners whose own health makes them unable to provide adequate care, to severe neglect cases. They all find the support they need to build new, trusting relationships with humans and with other horses at AAE.

We have been involved with AAE for a number of years after previously working with another horse rescue group. So, we have some basis for comparison of rescue operations. We have been so impressed with the commitment, work and real-life goals of AAE that we have made them one of our biggest donation recipients. AAE not only works hard to care for and train their rescued horses but also finds them good long-term homes. Their ability to find good homes has much to do with the respect they have earned in the horse community. People know that they can trust AAE to give them accurate information about each horse so that good decisions can be made. Many of the AAE volunteers have been there for a decade or more. This length of service only happens when "management" establishes a safe and well-run property. We recommend AAE without reservation.

They All are seen by a Veteranarian and when adopted out you get the updated information on the horse you adopt. Thank you AAE for all the hard work you you do.

My husband and I started donating time as well as hand made decorations to All About Equine a few years ago. Wendy works very hard at keeping her horses and volunteers happy, it is always a pleasure to see the people that work so hard to care for the animals that come in to this rescue. I would very highly recommend this rescue to anyone who is looking for a horse that is well cared for no matter what the issue is that the horse has. Thank you so much for what you all do to save these horses.

I am a volunteer with AAE and I have nothing but positive things to say about the organization. The horses are beautifully maintained, vet checked, and taken care of impeccably. The people at AAE are very supportive, positive in nature, and understand this is something we all do out of the goodness of our hearts. The organization has been built from a foundation of love.

All About Equine is more than a rescue filled with loving and caring people who work extremely hard to nurture and heal the damaged bodies, minds and spirits of horses. They are a community of wonderful people who show broken and damaged people how to heal their minds and spirits through the transforming power of loving and caring for a horse. Look at the Programs on their website and you find special days for Children, Seniors and Veterans. What you don't see are the people who train and mentor volunteers who are disabled or emotionally damaged or utterly clueless when it pertains to how to care for a horse.
If your thinking "A Horse Rescue should only rescue horses. Why rescue people?" Think about this...Horses are abused and neglected and killed Every Day. By People Who Were ..Never Taught..How to Care About and Care For a Horse.
All About Equine is all about rescuing horses now. And rescuing horses in the future, by teaching people how to love, protect and care for a horse.

I started volunteering with AAE in basic horse care after moving to the area from my lifelong home in Northern Virginia. AAE immediately became a new home, they took my life long love of horses, with interrupted riding experiences and helped me learn about actual horsemanship; with insight into daily needs as well as their approach to medical care. I learned so much during my time there it's hard to express, only a career driven move from the area broke my 3 days a week comittment to time spent - I've been away from daily chores for awhile now and still miss AAE every day. The horses are amazing, the people are amazing. I had some experience with a few rescues, horse and small animal, before I started volunteering here and in comparison this is truly an amazing organization - if you love horses or just love four leggers AAE is a blessing, try it and see!

A barn friend that helps with AAE invited me to attend the fundraiser, Boots and Bling last year, so I bought tickets for husband and self. Just prior to the event a sickly foal was rescued and needed almost hourly care. The event went on, but in the parking lot was a well bedded trailer with the foal, and intravenous taped securely to the neck. Volunteers rotated being with the foal throughout the evening, as well as the many volunteers that manned the stations at the event. For daily care at the property volunteers do all the care on a shift basis. Now there is a used tack store to further expand the ways to raise funding for the rescued horses. I have never seen such dedication to horses as at AAE.

My mare was untouchable when I first got her so, AAE allowed me to spend a month with her there before I adopted her. Wendy is a fantastic person and is so knowledgeable. The volunteers are always so nice and everything is very organized. All of the staff and volunteers were so supportive of Kona and I and they continue to be! I am just awestruck by the abilities and kindenesses of the wonderful people who really ARE All About Equine! I had never heard of this organization before a few years ago when I tried my own hand at horse adoption. Though for me it turned out that my then-current experiences with horses were not honed well enough for me to adopt my first "forever" horse, I had the first-hand experience of visiting AAE and, through thoughtful and patient conversation with Wendy diGiorno, was able to find direction on the path to my first horse. Though I'm still travelling that path, thanks to Wendy and her associate, Sharon, I am fully confident that I'm headed the right way, thanks to that never-to-be-forgotten afternoon for me at AAE. Theirs is an organization which truly takes to heart the specific needs of the individual horses and prospective owners for the best possible "forever" outcome for all concerned. How fortunate for California that AAE is here!

This rescue is exceptional because they take the best care of the horses they take in, spare no expense when it comes to medical care by using a top notch horse clinic in the area, and they are tireless and innovative with their fundraising. They have been very consistent and placed a lot of horses in good homes. I would always go to AAE first if I wanted to get a new horse because you always know exactly what you are getting. This is such an amazing non-profit group. The work they do truly makes the world a better place one day at a time. I have been involved for several years now and have seen their work positively affect humans and horses beyond what words can describe. One of the most rewarding experiences has been watching the transformation of mammas and babies rescued from slaughter and through amazing dedication, patience, and love from volunteers seeing those same terrified, battered and essentially wild horses learn to trust humans. Then, in what can only be described as fate, those same horses come full circle to help humans learn to trust, have patience, and put their faith in another animal just as they did. It's truly remarkable to see the journey for both horse and human, and with AAE it is experienced on a daily basis.

Hey, if you don't mind getting dirty, mucking, and spending time with beautiful horses, AAE is the place to be. I had a horse a long time ago. I spent time with her grooming, riding etc. I was in heaven. I loved my little girl named Joy. I wasn't able to get another horse I missed the calmness and love between an animal and her mom (me). Some one told me about this organization that rescues horses and I immediately jumped on the band wagon, called and spoke to Judy to sign up for orientation and have never left. I was volunteering 3 days a week now I'm volunteering 4 days a week I'm on my 4th month. The shift leaders I have worked with Sue, Ashley and Michele are wonderful and full of information.

Four years ago we were looking for another horse. Our others horses had come from another equine nonprofit rescue. We wanted to continue our practice of embracing rescued horses. Since the last nonprofit rescue proved to be lacking ethical standards, we continued our search. Finding All About Equine Animal Rescue (AAE) turned out to be a true blessing. The director was very open with us regarding the nonprofit. We were able to obtain all information regarding their board, finances, veterinary services, etc. We were amazed at the transparency of AAE. After finding our wonderful horse, we felt so at ease to continue donation regularly. We also help financially with their fundraisers, medical issues, and general care. Two years ago we were able to find another horse from this organization. We feel blessed to know the honorable and virtuous nature of the rescue and its director. They have an all volunteer group taking care of the horses, each having such dedication to the cause.

When I first learned about All About Equine rescue I knew nothing about the terrible things done to horses. I myself am not a horse person so I asked what I could do to help out to save horses. The founder Wendy is just a friend and explained that they need all kids of volunteers. I decided that since I had a pickup Maybe I could help with picking up donations. Well that soon turned into making weekly runs to the feed store for Hay.55 gallon barrels of feed along with many other things needed. I have since moved away from the area but I do miss helping such a great cause. I miss all the volunteers who were always there to help me unload what ever I brought back to the rescue. Dave was the best of all and he always laughed at how I unloaded the hay, but was always there to bring the bales to the back of my truck. Is there a better rescue in the area. Not at all. theses people do the very best job possible as far as I am concerned.

I have been volunteering with All About Equine for over 2 years now! There is NOTHING I do not love about the rescue, the volunteers and of course, the animals. Everyone is so willing to educate those around them with what they've found works, what doesn't work. They allow new volunteers to grow in their confidence and to learn how to "read" the animals. I help on the Grants Team and the success and growth that we have seen is beyond measurable. Just this year we were awarded two large grants from the ASPCA because of the amazing work the rescue and it's volunteers do. I can't believe I waited so long to start volunteering. As a little girl I always dreamed of owning my own horse and riding off into the sunset...well the reality of living in an apartment as a child kind of dashed that dream. As I grew older that dream and desire never diminished. Knowing though that I could not yet financially own a horse I figured I'd work on my horsemanship and learn the ropes of owning a horse.

I researched nonprofits in the area to find those that would satisfy my need to learn and my passion to help. I found All About Equine and I've NEVER been happier. All About Equine's mission is to help rehabilitate and rehome the beautiful animals that they take in. In the 4 months I have been volunteering I have seen horses who have come in wild and fearful - be cared for so deeply that they are now able to be haltered and are on their way to being a less anxious animal. I've seen at least 5 horses go to their forever homes. I've seen kids who were afraid of horses learn enough to know that the horse is a gentle giant who just wants to please but deserves respect. I've seen a baby Barbados Sheep who was abandoned by her mama be taken in and loved by not only the founder and all the volunteers but even the resident Golden Retriever Holli who also "mothered" another baby sheep who needed the love.

All About Equine's volunteer staff and their trainers are amazing. There are no words that can express the impact they've had on my life and my future. I love them all so dearly and I look forward every week to my Saturday morning shift of feeding, mucking and grooming. It's the highlight to my week.

I STRONGLY recommend All About Equine to anyone who is looking to adopt, foster, learn and love. There truly is no better place.

As a former board member of a non-profit horse rescue, I am very impressed with AAE. It is not often that you find an organization that balances both resources and capabilities with the number of animals that they rescue. This is so critical in the success of any non-profit because most keep taking just one more and soon become overwhelmed and fail. I have volunteered at All About Equine Animal Rescue for 5 years. During those 5 years, I've seen over 100 horses be given a second chance to survive and thrive and hopefully, find their forever homes. To date, nearly 75% of the rescued and rehabilitated horses have, indeed, found that opportunity for a new beginning. The many dedicated volunteers are instrumental in the successful adoptions as well as the daily maintenance and care of the young and senior horses who reside at the AAE ranch. Not only is the "hands-on" work rewarding for me but being around so many caring and focused people is down right fun! The first thing that impressed me was how each horse is treated individually according to their health and nutrition needs. I have seen first hand how love and care can turn an animal around. The focus is always the animals first, which leaves volunteers like myself feeling like we really can make a difference.
Then there are the programs for the children, which my grandchildren have benefited from. Kids really do need to see what ranch/farm life is like.
The adoption rate for the horses is also something to be very proud of, and it comes from the dedication of the Director right on down the line to each volunteer.

AAE is by far the most well kept and professional rescue organization that I have ever volunteered for. I have worked with many organizations in Ohio and none of them approach the caliber of care and support of AAE. They not only care for the animals that they receive; They equally care for their volunteers, supporters, and their adopters. AAE is genuinely in the business of creating an organic space based on compassion, patience, and realism.

The care that these horses receive is excellent. Feed times are on a tight schedule, medications and supplements are easily tracked so that all volunteers know which horses are receiving attention for which ailment. There is a log book that all volunteers have access to where we note potential issues, concerns, or general comments on the day at the barn.

In closing, AAE is far more than your average rescue program. There is focus, support, and a genuine lack of ego in this barn. I am proud to say that I have been accepted by the AAE family and look forward to many years of volunteering at their barn.

I had no experience with horses aside from a few trail rides in my life, but I have always dreamed of owning my own horse. I have the privilege of seeing their faces every day. What a wonderful organization! They truly care about the horses well-being and finding good homes for them and are very good at it! I wish I had more time to get out there because I love every minute when I do go! I am very thankful for my AAE family! Thank you!

I have volunteered with several other animal welfare organizations in the past 5 years, and I have found AAE to be one of the most well organized and well kept animal welfare organizations that I have had the joy of working for. As a volunteer, I have helped with Pony Pal birthdays that consists of arts and crafts, petting zoos, and occasional riding for children. All of the volunteers at AAE are very polite, hard working, and determined to give the horses and other animals at AAE good lives while the animals are with the organization. All About Equine has one of the best turn around rates of all the equine welfare organizations that I have worked with. All About Equine also has one of the largest support networks that is comprised of individuals who put time and effort into making AAE an organization that is sustainable and welcoming to the El Dorado County community. All About Equine works closely with many of the community organizations, and will continue to expand with programs that will include working with the disabled, abused women, and lessons for children. I would highly recommend individuals to seek out All About Equine for any aspect, from volunteering, sponsoring, fostering, or simply donating because All About Equine has a very friendly, welcoming, and purposeful atmosphere.

My wife and I moved to CA in September of 2012 after retiring, primarily to follow the children. Needing to fill our time we decided that volunteering at an animal rescue would be a wonderful fit as we always had dogs and knew that animal people were usually down to earth. Our first AAE experience was in December of 2009.

We were seduced from day one. The people, the enthusiasm, the personal sacrifice, and the loving that encourages us to find any excuse to visit the AAE property and the wonderful horses as well as other volunteers have made us complete. It's called "All About Equine", but it's so much more. Yes the horses are receiving a benefit, but everyone we encounter in the organization also seem to benefit from the interaction with the horses and the caretakers.

Thanks for rescuing us after we retired.

ALL ABOUT EQUINE HORSE RESCUE changed my own personal life in so many positive ways that I don't know how to put it down in few words. I have always had a very deep passion for horses & all of God's creatures. It's been a calling to me from a very young child to protect & love them. I crossed paths with ALL ABOUT EQUINE HORSE RESCUE in late July 2012 where I became a volunteer & fell in love with this awesome organization and the wonders it does for the horses who otherwise would not be walking this planet as I speak. The horses I worked with were tortured, put through pure hell & some so sick it was literally touch & go, yet others completely untouchable. Through this organization many beautiful horses turned around in health, able trust in man again & found their forever homes. My story really began when I helped along side many other volunteers to rehabilitate two horses that I ended up falling madly in love with & couldn't bear to be with out so I adopted them for myself in Dec 2012... Mr. Tank/OTTB gelding & Miss Star/Arabian mare. Wow, I can't even imagine life with out them & life with out all the wonderful volunteers who have became my friends & dear to my heart. I truly love ALL ABOUT EQUINE ANIMAL RESCUE for who they are ,what they do, and the unwavering passion to see that each & every single horse on that ranch is loved, healed & the ultimate goal of finding each of them a forever loving home to never know abuse or hunger again. Guess I better stop here cause I can blather on & on. GOD BLESS ALL ABOUT EQUINE HORSE RESCUE!!!

There are not enough words to describe the positive and powerful impact All About Equine (AAE) is making in its community, both for horses and humans. In my first year's experience as a volunteer I have learned so much about horses and about myself in the process. I've never owned a horse, nor did I grow up around them, but the opportunities this organization provides its volunteers are to learn, grow, and expand their individual skills all while providing horses with much needed help is to me priceless. As for the horses, I've seen so many that came from horrendous and heart-braking backgrounds that appeared to me unknown until their story was shared with me because of the amount of time of care already provided by AAE. In addition, this organization has some incredibly dedicated and emotionally invested people working its day-to-day operations in what I see to be in a very responsible and compassionate manner. I am truly grateful to be a part of it and looking forward to assisting this organization as it continues to grow in its community and with its programs.

I love AAE!! I came to them about two years ago without any horse knowledge, and they just took me right in. They have taught me so much and I am so thankful for their kindness and their generous hearts. and the horses are amazing! I wish i could volunteer a lot more.

All About Equine is a wonderful place and I'm so thankful for their existence so horses can have second chance, and sometimes a third a fourth. I've seen first hand what a difference AAE makes in the lives of horses and volunteers. There is something magical that happens between a horse and a human when a horse is learning to trust again and it is a beautiful thing to witness. AAE has a wonderful track record of doing what they set out to do and that is finding horses their forever homes. I've worked for other non-profits and they are the real deal and they never stray from their "vision". I have the upmost respect for the founders of this organization who give so tirelessly of their time and resources and strive to keep it going no matter the challenges. This is sacrifice and service at it's best. I am proud to be a part of an outstanding organization full of volunteers who work to make a difference in the lives of horses and though they may not be saving the world, they are making a difference in the life of a horse.

The mission at All About Equine is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome the horses it takes into its care. In the 2 years I have volunteered at AAE I have seen horses recover mentally and physically from unspeakable neglect and abuse. I have seen more than 40 horses find a new life as they are adopted into their forever homes. This organization takes every dollar earned and puts it back into caring for its horses. It is a privilege to be able to volunteer my time at a non profit who puts the animals first and foremost.
