Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: To aid disadvantaged hispanic and other farm working women and families in impoverished communities in central florida in overcoming social, cultural, and economic problems, by providing support, education, and encouragement in ways which include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. To assist in the distribution of food and clothing to needy families in the farm working community; 2. To work with other non-profit section 501(c)(3) organizations to bring aid and comfort to impoverished hispanic and other farm working families and to assist such families in finding helpful agencies; 3. To educate the general public on the needs of the less fortunate in these hispanic and farm working communities; 4. To conduct health fairs and to provide education and instruction to hispanic and farm working women and families about health issues, including, but not limited to, breast cancer, cervical cancer, nutrition, diabetes, high blood pressure, and sexually transmitted diseases; 5. Programs: Ventanilla de salud program: is an annual program where 10 to 12 program promoters received training on health screenings, diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, and nutrition. The program promoters held health fairs, and visited the needy in order to communicate the training they received, and also to communicate the nearest accessible clinics and hospitals for each participant. They also held workshops related to cancer, smoking and its related effects.
farmworkers justice national advocacy group - epa grant # ch83510901: this was a 5 month program where 10 to 12 promoters received three days of training and education regarding the health concerns from exposure to lead in the workplace and home. The promoters each met with 30 people in the community in order to disseminate the health concerns from lead, and where to receive emergency attention in the event they are exposed to it.
