Causes: Arts & Culture, Humanities
Mission: The mission of the Alaska Humanities Forum is to use the humanities to tell the stories and impact the lives of all Alaskans.
Programs: Humanities council: humanities programs encompassed a wide range of humanities topics including arts, a leadership program, alaskan history, and the annual governor's awards for the arts and humanities. These programs help pass on the values, methods, and wisdom of the humanities to future generations. The alaska humanities forum issued grants to individuals and small organizations, which funded humanities-based projects in small communities across the state. Projects cultivate enjoyment of the humanities in disciplines such as cultural studies, archaeology, ethics, philosophy, history, linguistics, folklore, languages, theatrical arts, and film.
urban rural exchange program: the rose urban rural exchange aims to strengthen relationships between urban and rural alaskans by building mutual respect and understanding, and fostering a statewide sense of community through cross-cultural immersion. We do this through two approaches: the sister school exchange and the educator cross-cultural immersion.
cross-cultural competence: a cultural immersion experience and alaska native camp was provided to rural educators, enhancing their cultural awareness and insight to the native peoples, their culture and their ways of teaching, learning and living.
