Mission: Founded in 1990, the mission of the Homeless Action Center (HAC) is to provide high-quality public benefits advocacy for free to homeless and disabled residents of Alameda County. With legal advocacy, clients obtain health care, housing, a sustainable income, and restored dignity.

Programs: - Public benefits legal advocacy. HAC provides legal advocacy to low-income residents of Alameda County to receive social safety net benefits such as SSI, SSDI, and CAPI. - Outreach. The Outreach Team meets people living in vehicles, tents on the street, and encampments to provide in-person assistance in the field. - Drop-In Services. We offer drop-in services each week, from Monday through Thursday, 1:00 – 5:00pm, at both our South Berkeley and West Oakland offices. Anyone can stop by to get assistance or a referral. - Almost Home. Almost Home provides seven clients with temporary, supported, transitional housing while they work on finding a permanent placement.
