ACFPA has been a blessing to me as a member. I have received trainings and much needed support on how to navigate the complicated systems that are needed to do a good job as a Resource Parent in the community. As a board member we make every effort to work directly with the families to make sure the monthly meetings are full of updated information from the County agencies in our area, and state of the art required trainings. As the membership grows I will endeavor to address the needs of our families so they feel supposed as well as heard.

My wife and I made time to be trained through the foster program so that we could adopt.
Our first placement was a baby boy. We know this would be a challenge because this was our first. We had no prior experience with fostering but with the great training we received, the placement went smoothly. However, the best training we received was when the child was placed in our home and for almost 2 years it was the hardest / rewarding training my wife and I ever got. After the two years, the child was returned to his mother. This was a heartbreaking time. However, we did not give up. We continued our training. Now my wife and I got a call for another placement for a baby girl. This time this placement is for adoption and this placement is easier thanks to the best training we received from our first placement and the Alameda county foster training program.

ACFPA is a great organization! Over the years we have adopted many children and with each new placement ACFPA was there to supply any need the children had with efficiency and kindness. Even after our adoptions were finalized ACFPA still provided resources, information and training! Their Commitment to excellence Coupled with Kindness and love has changed the lives of our family for the better. I was filled with so much gratitude that we started to volunteer with ACFPA. Now that I have become part of this organization, I can honestly say the executive board and ACFPA members are priceless commodities for all resource parents!

I have been on the ACFPA Board as Treasurer for close to 5 years and have been grateful to have the opportunity to provide support to Resource Families and their children. All Board positions are voluntary and unpaid. We do this because we love children and want to support the families that care for them in times of crisis. In addition to our famous Clothing Closet and Diaper distribution, our enrichment and academic scholarships, free tickets to museums, sports and cultural events, our monthly meetings offer a place for Resource Families to share their experiences, build relationships and stay informed.

As a foster parent and the Treasurer for ACFPA, I am both aware of the challenges of being a foster parent and the importance of the support that is provided by our organization. Through our monthly meetings and social events, we provide a space for foster, adoptive and relative resource families to connect and build relationships, as well as to receive training on important and relevant topics. Through our donation program, Clothes Closet and Scholarships, we support families with the resources they need to care for their children and enrich their lives. As of 2017, our scholarship program has provided close to $7,000 to families for both enrichment and academic support.

I have been a foster/adopt parent for over 10 years. Much less than many, but more than some. In those years I have received valuable advise, support and goods from the Alameda County Foster Parent Association, Chapter 1. The amount of experience and wealth of information that we receive on a monthly basis, sometimes is just the nugget that you need to get through the rest of the week.

I was notified of a free mattress in San Jose. I went with my friend to pick it up and we got a queen size and a twin size. It really helped out for the time we needed. ACFPA ch 1 cared and kept up contact with me to assure i had the correct address and info to obtain the items. Very helpful and resourceful.

I have been a member of ACFPA since 2008. The meetings offer a wealth of knowledge. They direct you to classes and events that the organization puts on which can help you and your foster/adopt children. The ACFPA holds a number of fund raisers which benefit the children at Christmas time and at the yearly picnic, right before school begins. They also hold a wonderful yearly dinner to appreciate all the foster/adopt parents. My family and I feel very blessed for the additions to our family and thank them for all their help, classes and donations. Going to functions together builds friendships and offers a great support system.

I'm a foster-adopt parent and found this nonprofit to be very warm, welcoming, and full of lots of resources and information. I started attending meetings in the last 4-5 months and they bring in guest speakers monthly to educate us on various resources and training. I've met a lot of other parents here and have extended our community of support. My children are benefiting from my active membership in ACFPA and have made several new friends.

ACFPA is a great nonprofit that helps foster children and parents. Supplies kids with clothes and other items. They also find great trainings for foster parents. Best part the resources foster parents can learn through the members of ACFPA. These resources then help the children. Without ACFPA I wouldn’t have met such wonderful people.

It has many positive effects on the lives of families with foster kids: congregates; helps out with clothes; toys and diapers and other sumilar goods; hosts speakers with relevant topics; organizes fun events; and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. I wish this dear organization all the best and a healthy continuous growth.

My partner and I have been going to the Foster Parent Association meetings since we found out about them on our training to become foster parents with the Social Service Agency of Alamenda County. It is a great association to be part of the foster parent community in a semi formal way. They are a small group which makes it cozy, but not too small. It helps you feel more empower about navigating the multiple systems and technicalities of the journey of being a foster parent. I'm glad that there is a core of members that have been committed through out the years to make the association to function. I feel respect and friendship and I think we all in the association want the association to thrive to become better at what we are doing. It is a great community place that I'm happy to be part of these days.

The Alameda County Foster Parent Association has truly been a wonderful resource to me and my family. Since becoming a foster adoptive parent and joining the foster parent association, the support and help I have received through their programs is really amazing and has helped ease the financial burden on my family..
I'm also able to receive many differing types of trainings, many of which ive found are required to keep my home licensed, the trainings are always relevant and very well organized.
I though about not joining but in retrospect, im glad I did and I look forward to helping out and volunteering when and as I am able to..

Thanks acfpa... You guys are awesome..
Keep up the good work..

The Alameda County Foster Care Parent Association is a very giving organization. I have attended several events where nothing is asked of me except to show up, and much is given in return. From the annual Christmas party, where each child ( and there are over a 150) is given the opportunity to go and pick out toys, pajamas, and other goodies, while being entertained by Disney Characters, and Santa. Leaving the party with a garage bag full of gifts. Also, the Summer Picnic where each child receives a back pack filled with all the supplies to start them off in the upcoming school year. All this without judgement or ridicule. These events also happen at a time when money can e short for the families caring for children.

The Alameda County Foster Parent Assoc is a great origination with a focused mission, that being to service displaced children and the adults who've steped up to the plate, sacrificing their time, talents and treasures with one single goal, that being to offer the many displaced children a loving place to call home, and sometime this leads to a child finding their FOREVER FAMILY...
If you have a heart and passion for children and are looking for a place to serve on a volunteer basis then the ACFPA is a place that I find to be worthy of my time, efforts and energy...

I am honored to serve with such a awesom organization that is lead by a group of select people who truly care about and. Love children, ALL CHILDREN........

As a experienced foster parent... notice I said experienced...I didn't say expert ;) , I understand the need for support & resources. Being a member of ACFPA is like having that extended family. Family that understands what you & your child(ren) are going through. Monthly meeting aka get togethers gives us that opportunity to meet with other parents & get informative on resources that can help us help our child(ren). The children love the annually fun events & gifts that they receive. It is great seeing their smiles & knowing that they are Loved by many.

We are new foster parents, and we have found ACFPA to be a wonderful support and resource for us. They provide interesting and useful trainings, which also get us the training credits we need for continuing certification as foster parents; and, more importantly, this group of people is a network of supportive people who helped us immediately get clothes, baby furniture, diapers, and advice that we desperately needed when our first foster baby was placed with us. The people who run ACFPA are smart, dedicated, and care a LOT about foster kids and making sure that foster parents have the resources they need to provide a safe and caring home.

ACFPA provides support, resources and training to caregivers of foster children. They provide children in care with the experiences that are afforded other children in our community through events and funding. Their meetings provide a place that foster parents can learn from their peers and voice their concerns. Donations and funds for foster children are constantly being sought with new ideas for events being explored.
