A feeling of being independent is incomparable to anything for a person with visual impairment. Lion Center for the blind and its staff left no stone unturned to get me a job. I would say they have a wonderful pool of resources to help people with disabilities get ready to be independent. Thank you Lion Center for the blind for all your efforts in helping me find my dream job.

If you think you need resources you do. It NEVER hurts to get more information and services. If you are disabled you need resources so please take advantage of the resources available to you. I'm low vision and a client of the California Department of Rehabilitation in SF and my counselor recommended for me to contact Andrea, a workforce program manager, at the Lions Center for the Blind to help me find a job. I did get a job quickly, but what was most helpful to me was how Andrea gave me positive feedback about my skills and this built my confidence around interviewing and the uncertainty while looking for a job. Also, you can get questions answered about SSDI. I highly recommend this resource.

I was referred to the Oakland Lion Center by my Rehabilitation Counselor after college graduation. I had not worked for many years due to a disability. I hadn't worked for many years and was quite nervous about returning to the work force. At the Lions Center I participated in their employment services program which was phenomenal. Besides the standard resume writing, the program focused on networking, mock interviews, research and how to get selected for an interview. Pretty awesome resource. Wish I had heard about it before I went to college.

This organization has not published an Annual Report in over four years. They referred to this site for current financial data but the information here is also out of date. Without comparative data over time it is very difficult to judge wether the good that is being done equates with the cost of operations.
The staff is very unreliable, self serving, and the organization has a high turn-over rate. I do not refer my clients here.

My family was referred there to inquire about services and we are sorely disappointed with the treatment we received. After MULTIPLE un-returned phone calls we finally schedule an appointment for assessment but found the staff to be cold and insensitive to both our family members needs and our situation regarding transportation, income, and background. I would not recommend them to anyone seeking service.
