Mission: Alachua habitat for humanity is a christian organization that puts faith into action as we help show gods love to families in need in our community. Our mission is to work within the power and direction of god, and in partnership with his people everywhere to provide safe, decent, affordable homes for families in need so that all people may have a decent life to live, and the opportunity to grow in all god intends for them.
Programs: Alachua habitat for humanity (ahfh) builds homes for qualifying low income families. Ahfhs work spans the entire geographic area of alachua county, fl including the cities of gainesville, alachua, micanopy, archer, high springs, and hawthorne in addition to rural areas. Since its formation, nearly 134 homes have been built for families in need. Ahfh is a hand up, not a hand out where family partners save for a 1000 down payment, contribute 400 hours of their own labor to the construction of their home and pay a zero-interest mortgage once the house is completed. In addition to building homes, ahfh holds and services the mortgages for these homeowners, helping to reduce the rate of foreclosure that might otherwise occur in this income group. Ahfh also operates a thrift store that specializes in used or recycled building supplies for the benefit of low- income families, enabling them to affordably maintain and furnish their homes. Another program operated by ahfh is a brush with kindness that identifies homes in need of painting and coordinates volunteers for that purpose. Finally, the ahfh assists homeowners with home repairs.

I am a great fan of Habitat, and particularly of the Alachua Habitat for Humanity. I, my family and my church (United Church of Gainesville) took part in the initial construction of the Celebration Oaks development. I am very happy to see that 29 of the 30 houses have been completed. You would be a wise and fortunate person if you take the opportunity to help build the 30th!
