Mission: The mission of the air, space, & missile defense association is to promote the security of our nation by providing programs and support for activities that contribute to the advancement of a common understanding of the vital importance of air, space & missile defense systems to our national future. To foster communications and relationships between government activities with responsibilities for or interests in air, space, and missile defense; local government organizations; and local industries.
Programs: Provided 16 full scholarships (an entire space camp team) for 9-11 year olds to attend the 2-7 july 2017 uss&rc space camp in huntsville, alabama. This year's winners included children from alabama, alaska, colorado, virginia, and kwajalein atoll.
awarded four academic scholarships from the asmda "loretta spencer" college and university scholarship program on 8 august 2017 as part of the space and missile defense symposium. Also awarded the general dodgen memorial academic scholarship valued at $4,000 on 8 august 2017 as part of the space and missile defense symposium.
presented sixteen space and missile defense technical achievement and service excellence awards for both government and contractor employees in recognition of exceptional achievement in the development, test and deployment of air, space, and missile defense systems during the asmda annual membership luncheon on 23 february 2017. Co-sponsored the 20th space and missile defense symposium, huntsville, alabama, 8-10 august 2017. Provided over $3,000 in grants to support community veteran efforts to include the gold star shadow boxes, huntsville's veterans day parade band participation, and wreaths for veterans. Co-sponsored (with ndia) adventures in engineering (aie) event in november. To promote personal interest in science and engineering, asmda brings local area 11th graders onto redstone arsenal to see the kind of science and engineering work being accomplished on a daily basis. This year, asmda hosted over 375 students and educators from 20 area high schools from across north alabama and southern middle tennessee. Performed a $5,000 upgrade to the space and missile defense distinguished civilians wall of honor located in the davidson center at the u. S. Space and rocket center.
