Mission: To develop property in the kilauea area owned by the county of kaua'i for the purpose of developing a community garden, individual farming plots, a farmers' market, and other facilities appropriate to the well-being of the kilauea community.
Programs: Further development of community garden frames and supports were erected to provide greenhouse, safety from nene. Seeds were planted, volunteers enlisted, and crops began to grow in an area of approximately 2 acres. Rotary helped to plant pineapple.
infrastructure was developed: entry gate and a new curved road were built to accommodate development of a community farmers' market. 2 acres of additional land was cleared for use in farming. The rock wall was extended along the fence line on one side of the acreage. Architectural plans were completed and submitted to the county for construction of roofed buildings for the farmers' market. The administration building was wired electrically,
farms: farms were laid out on approximately 10 acres, soil was enriched, a temporary water line was laid, weeds were removed, and fertilizer was applied. Additional farmers were accommodated. Small equipment was purchased. Farmers are now planting large crops on 8 acres.
