Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Mental Health, Philanthropy

Mission: The organization's mission is to build a movement devoted to the mental health of children, teens, and young adults by funding clinical research to find better treatments and cures, raising awareness, and improving access to effective treatments. AIM established the AIM Beyond COVID Program to support taking treatments virtual, reaching larger populations through telehealth and digital medicine. AIM drives discussion and advocacy through Community Awareness and Ambassador programs and expands access to evidence-based solutions to reach youth in need through the AIM research programs. With a growing mental health crisis, AIM has developed community engagement programs, benefiting thousands, including: ● The AIM for Awareness Walk & Rally, providing a fair of mental health resources. ● The AIM Design Challenge for Middle and High School students, which has seen thousands of entries, fostering a positive venue for youth to explore what mental health means to them, and a platform free of stigma for teachers and parents to start the conversation about the importance of mental wellness. ● The AIM Scientific Symposium educates providers, educators and the community on the latest advancements in mental health treatments.

AIM has been steadily growing over the past decade to become one of the premier youth mental health charities in the country. I am thoroughly impressed with the percentage of donations that go directly to funding research and their continued presence in communities around California. AIM not only focuses on funding research but holds art contests for the youth, walks/rallys at schools to destigmatize mental health/get the conversation going, and speakers series where anyone in the community can learn healthy ways to boost their own mental health. Overall, I am astounded with the breadth of AIMs mission and hope they continue their work as it is of the upmost importance.

I recently attended the AIM Youth Speaker Series in Los Angeles and had the most incredible and inspirational day. I learned tools and strategies for common youth mental health challenges like anxiety, and had the opportunity to connect with my community in an engaging way. AIM is an amazing organization funding real research and change for youths suffering from mental health disorders. Not only does it make a difference directly in the Monterey community, but through research and events it helps create solutions with much broader impact.

There are multiple facets of AIM Youth Mental Health. Alongside the groundbreaking research, AIM provides Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings for anyone and everyone in the general public. I highly recommend this evidence-based certification, as it's an accessible, entry-level training that has been proven to lower the stigma surrounding mental health challenges.

Even before Covid 19, the growing number of our young people who struggle with their mental health had reached a crisis. Stresses brought on by the pandemic have only compounded the crisis. With an impressive track record, AIM is funding promising youth mental health research to identify solutions that make a difference in young people’s lives. AIM combines a strategic approach – assembling a world-class advisory board to guide investments, for example, and focusing on bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and clinical practice – with a lot of heart.

As children and young adults navigate an increasingly complex and nuanced world, we need to develop the tools only evidenced-based research can provide. AIM Youth Mental Health is leading the effort to amplify and fund this vitally important work. Their mission of not only funding but sharing and promoting the latest developments in the mental health of children, teens, and young adults is deeply impactful and appreciated. As the mother of two teen daughters each of whom has struggled with mental health issues, I appreciate their laser focus and commitment to helping our vulnerable young people.

My experience with AIM has been as a supporter of the Founder Susan Stilwell... Over the past 7 years I have witnessed her tireless hours of dedication and passionate commitment to raising both awareness and funding for research for children, teens and young adults who suffer from Mental Health problems...Organization's like AIM are greatly needed to help young people get the support and treatment they need to understand and manage the personal issues that plague them... I want to encourage anyone who wants to support an extremely worth while cause to donate to AIM... I am moved an inspired by Susan and her staff, and am volunteering to assist them in their effort to help fund research for all the youth that seek guidance and help! Please look into AIM and give your support now!

Love the Ad Contest for Middle and High School students that AIM promotes. It starts the conversation about mental health in school. It also gives teachers an insight into their own students mental wellness.

The AIM Ideas Lab is a groundbreaking program with the potential to impact 10,000 youth in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties and improve their mental health. Local youth will be able to learn about youth mental health research, conduct their own scientific studies, and make recommendations to AIM's world-class Scientific Advisory Board. A true example of "Nothing About Us Without Us."

Watching AIM Youth Mental Health grow over the past 6 years has been incredible. It is an amazing non-profit that not only raises funds for mental health research, but also raises awareness. Prior to AIM, I had no idea it was such a major issue amongst youth in America. Now, thanks to their fundraisers and monthly newsletters, I am much more aware and can really see the impact the research they’ve funded has had. The founders and all of AIM’s team members are extremely dedicated to making a difference.

AIM Youth Mental Health is the premier mental health research funding non-profit. As one of very few mental health research funders in the United States, AIM is filling a much needed void in the space. Mental health is a growing epidemic and research is the key to finding the best early interventions, treatments, and solutions. I love receiving AIM's monthly newsletter that often includes very compelling impact stories from their funded research.
