Mission: In 1987, when there was little government funding for, or public concern about AIDS, volunteers from Philadelphia's lesbian and gay community center decided to organize a walk-a-thon to raise money for AIDS service organizations and to increase public awareness. From All Walks of Life was the organization's name, and the first Walk was help in October 1987 and raised $33,000. Seventeen years later, the AIDS FUND has the same mission, and philosophy, of devoted and cost effective fundraising efforts to help all people living with HIV or AIDS. We still care, we still recruit over 1,200 volunteers a year. The AIDS FUND has raised over $11.6 million dollars in the past for AIDS services and public awareness efforts. AIDSWalkPhilly is our largest event, and the 2002 Walk attracted nearly 30,000 walkers.

Based on the 2012 990, it appears that the organization is only providing grants to AIDS service organizations equal to 27% of their total revenue for that year. Since that's their primary program, it's a very low percentage. Of course there's merit in what they spend on raising awareness, but that effort has lagged significantly in recent years and is not nearly as important as funding actual AIDS programs.
