African Vision of Hope moves with the Lord, and He restores and rescues the children and families of Zambia. The most impressive thing about the ministry is that they are led by God and the people of Zambia to truly care for what they need most. The Gospel is preached, and lives are saved both spiritually and physically.

African Vision of Hope is deeply committed to ending extreme poverty in Zambia. The impact on children's lives is truly life-changing!
African Vision of Hope fights for the unseen orphans in a struggling country on the other side of the world. The country of Zambia is a country filled with orphans, as 50% of the population is under the age of 15. With no parents to care for them, there is no one left to feed them, provide a roof over their head or pay for their education (K-12th grade, as it is not free in Zambia). Without an education, orphans cannot break out of the cycle of extreme poverty. African Vision of Hope has stepped in and is rescuing these unseen children, providing a Christ-centered education, a hot nutritious lunch every day and a family of teachers, staff, and fellow students. These kids will change the face of Zambia and Africa as a whole in the years to come!

These children are the future of Zambia & Africa!
My heart was moved by African Vision of Hope when I first heard of it. I happened to know the ones that birthed AVOH. We attended the same church years ago. After researching and visiting their office, my husband and I sponsored a young boy in one of their Zambian Schools. It is such an honor to give this child an opportunity to have a quality education while learning about Jesus.. One of the benefits is the joy of exchanging letters and being part of his educational and spiritual growth. There are always others in need so we blessed another young boy. By coincidence, they are in the same school. Our daughter visited AVOH schools in Zambia last year and has stayed in touch with them. She has seen the benefits of our caring and contributions.
This organization is one of the best charities out there. They truly are doing God's work. The future is our children
I have worked with AVOH for several years. They took over and ran a small school that my wife and I built. Since they took over the transformation at the school which is in an extremely poor community in Northern Province of Zambia has been northing short of miraculous. The campus has been expanded again and again and the school and teachers are wonderful. The kids are all fed a hot nutritious meal every school day and they are thriving. They graduated the first class of grade 12’s at the end of 2022 and will do so again with the second class in November 2023. They also help kids with the aptitude to do so, go on to higher education. I just can’t say enough good about AVOH. They are the best!

I've saw firsthand the schools that AVOH operates in Zambia, and the care and concern shown to each student. In addition to the schools that they operate, they do a lot of work in the communities that they serve, helping people uplift themselves in many ways. They continue their support of their high school graduates who want to continue their educations either at University or at a Technical or Nursing school. AVOH's efforts are yielding fruit and will continue to do so, and will in fact have an impact on lifting the entire nation of Zambia. I personally know the founders. I have spent time with them in the US and Zambia, and can tell you that there are no finer people than these.
African Vision of Hope is a wonderful all in for Jesus Christ mission organization. If you want to know that your dollar is going to help spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and His Father’s love this is a great place to support that mission. They love prayer, relationship building with God and fellowship with other believers. They are transparent and real people doing God’s work as laid out in Bible. They are hearers and doers of the Word. I have had wonderful experience with this nonprofit. I would give 10 stars if I could instead of 5!
African Vision of Hope is an amazing organization focused on ending the cycles of poverty in Zambia. Their work not only benefits individuals and families, but also communities throughout the country. Their staff is others-focused and they are committed to the education, safety, health, and spirit of every Zambian they serve.
African Vision of Hope is serving JESUS by helping to end extreme poverty one child at a time, leading souls to CHRIST, being true Kingdom builders!!! I am truly Blessed to have GOD shape and mold me thru HIS ministry!!!

Read moreWe have been sponsors for several years, and have had the privilege of meeting some of their students. I love that this is a locally run organization we can visit. The people who work there have a heart for the Lord and the people of Zambia. They equipt and train leaders in Zambia to make a lasting impact.
This summer I was blessed to travel with a team of four other Westminster Christian Academy teachers to Zambia to work with African Vision of Hope. While there we visited five of their seven schools that are providing free education, food, medical care, and shelter to children in extreme poverty. This organization works as the hands and feet of Jesus to care for and serve those in desperate need. We were able to work with teachers there and provide some professional development and leadership training. While we traveled there to teach, we were taught as well. I learned that the joy of Christ is not bound to circumstances. I learned that the face of poverty has a name, a story, an identity. I learned that the gospel can transform the world. I heard story after story of God’s work in the lives of children and adults that were rescued out of suffering and need. This experience changed me, and I will never be the same.
African Vision of Hope has been rescuing children from extreme poverty for over 20 years! They tackle the core issues of poverty through education, nutrition and medical care and training the whole person to be future leaders who can change their impoverished country. African Vision of Hope works tirelessly and intensely to accomplish this with the most efficient use of the resources they have. This organization is committed to the highest standards of financial integrity in all they do!

African Vision of Hope is an amazing ministry doing incredibly hard work in an exemplary manner. They are changing lives and rescuing those experiencing extreme poverty in Zambia. I am so thankful for all they do and the manner in which they do it. This is a one of a kind ministry, in my opinion, as I have yet to find another non profit making such a huge difference and using their resources so wisely.
African Vision of Hope is a ministry that goes above and beyond to provide for the children who live in extreme poverty in Zambia, Africa. I get regular updates from each Mission Trip, photos of my children receiving my letters and know that my money is working to transform lives of these children.

This ministry has been a part of my life since the beginning! My first child that I sponsored when he was in the 4th Grade, is now a third year medical student! I have witnessed transformed lives of the very poorest of children, who could not afford the school fees to get an education and are now serving a teachers, nurses, lawyers and so many more professions. I have looked into the children's faces and seen the lack of hope in their eyes. You can change the world by giving to this organization or sponsoring a child through this minisry!
African Vision of Hope has been working with my congregation, Eden Church, for quite some time. They are currently using some of our property for storage and as a place for volunteers to sort and prepare goods to be sent to Zambia. AVOH consistently makes incredible impact on the lives of the people of Zambia. Through their prayers, ministry, service and outreach, and through the many volunteer hours of service, they are pushing back the darkness and sharing the light of Christ. I encourage every congregation in the area to partner with AVOH in their mission efforts.
African Vision of Hope seeks to eradicate poverty at the source. With all sincerity and humility, they have sought to understand the deepest struggles and needs within the country of Zambia and to face them head on. A child is not just put in school, but they are given nutritious meals for hungry bellies and wandering minds. They are not just taught about math and sciences, but about sanitation and how to care for their bodies. A child is rescued from every impediment that stands in their way - abuse, neglect, hunger, sickness, and emotional duress.

A ministry that strives to serve with excellence. African Vision of Hope is always looking to partner with business men and women, ministry leaders, and volunteers to develop their strategy in reaching the most children in the most faithful and effective way. AVOH has big dreams for Zambia and is making them a reality!
Walking into any event or speaking with any representative at AVOH is always one that is heartfelt and intentional. AVOH is a very transparent organization with pure intentions to the people (and children) they serve. It’s always a wonderful experience to meet the organizers, attend events, and donate to their cause!
It can be rare to find a nonprofit you can feel comfortable that your hard earned contribution is being allocated appropriately. No such concern exists with AVOH. They make it a point to emphasize how your money is spent and exactly how it’s changing the futures of the next generation in Zambia. Unmatched, passionate staff that love the mission they’re working to achieve.
Amazing organization that does so much for so many kids. I have been involved for the past ten years and always walk away humbled by the impact they have on over 4000 kids in Zambia and appreciative for the opportunity to serve.
African Vision of Hope is an amazing non-profit organization. They are doing tremendously good things over in Zambia that is impacting so many children’s lives in a huge way. The volunteers and staff members there are very loving, appreciative, and kind. I was a part of their 2022 fundraising gala and it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
AVOH is an incredible organization, I have witnessed AVOH as it has changed many lives. If you are looking for a place to volunteer, donate to, or support in any way AVOH is the organization for you!
African Vision of Hope is transforming thousands of lives across the globe! This ministry is tacking the root causes of poverty and offering many opportunities to not just students, but families. After students graduate, they have the opportunity to be sponsored in seminary and college, allowing them to further change their lives and their families lives. I personally have been to Zambia 3 times and the trips have changed my life and perspective. At African Vision of Hope, there is a strong sense of community and love, and the Zambian staff truly cares deeply about each student. The staff and volunteers in the US works tirelessly and also care deeply about the children. The seminary students in Zambia are working hard to take the Gospel to the unreached people, and are also transforming so many lives. I believe the impact of African Vision of Hope is greater than we could ever know, because each life that has been transformed is going further to help their families, communities and the country at large. Every gift, talent, and skill has a place here. There are opportunities for everyone to volunteer, serve and love the people of Zambia.
AVOH is rescuing orphans, providing an education, serving 66,900 meals a month, clean water at the schools & surrounding communities, sanitation, health care and rescue homes with loving parents.
I love donating to such a financially responsible organization. I really see evidence of my money being put to good use and I love the relationship I have formed with my sponsor child.
I have been quite impressed with AVOH in the years I have been a donor. They have a vital ministry, and they are very responsible financially. Many blessings coming forth through their ministry
African Vision of Hope has helped me show God's love to not only the people in Zambia, but also the local community! I love being able to help an organization that is faith focused!
African Vision of Hope has touched so many lives, not just in Zambia but those connected through this program that serve the Zambian community. From those serving to those being served, lives are being changed daily. Keep up the great mission AVOH.
In June, 2019 my wife and I flew to Lusaka, Zambia for a short term mission trip with AVoH. We visited three of the schools AVoH maintains, a dorm AVoH has for young women, and we attended Sunday services at a local church. On two separate days we participated in a children's program at a community center. The children are adorable and there are lots of them. They queue up to get hugs. AVoH provides education and food for hundreds of kids every week. They provided housing for young women and young men. They provide scholarships for some to attend college. We heard testimonies from students who had been living on the streets with no hope for their future. AVoH took them in and provided food, shelter, education, and hope. Based on my experience, AVoH is doing an excellent job of helping the children of Zambia move out of a life of poverty.
African Vision of Hope continues to impact extreme poverty in Zambia through rescuing and restoring the most vulnerable children and young adults by providing them a world class Christian Education. I'm humbled to be able to serve with this amazing team of like minded volunteers and donors who are bringing generational change to Zambia.
They are changing the lives of children and their communities for generations to come with food, shelter, education and God's word! Thank you AVOH!
Amazing work being done, literally changing children's lives providing food and educational opportunities. I witnessed the work both in the USA and on the ground in Zambia.
The organization is teaching, feeding, and raising a generation in Zambia out of poverty and inspiring graduates to carry forward the vision as adults.
They do a wonderful job of meeting and exceeding the needs of the people in Zambia. Not only do they meet those needs, they are providing ways for their people to be self sustaining. They give the people of Zambia hope and a future, something they never thought was possible.
African Vision of Hope is a great organization and making a difference and impact to Zambian children and families.
I have been involved with this nonprofit since I was a child. They are committed to rescuing children and families in Zambia, Africa from extreme poverty!

This nonprofit does the most amazing work in Zambia, Africa. Every cent goes towards helping educate the people of Zambia, young and old. The lasting impact of this organization can already be seen in the work it has done. Zambia has been changed forever by this organization.
We love African Vision of Hope! Our family knows that the money we send-whether for our sponsored children or to help meet immediate needs of the people in Zambia-is going directly to where they have said it will go. This is why we continue to give and tell others about the integrity of everyone involved with AVOH.

Our family loves African vision of Hope! When we give to this organization, we give in full confidence that our money is going to help provide educational, medical and spiritual needs involved. We regularly receive pictures and updates on our sponsored children. Judi and the team serve with such integrity, passion and humility. We are honored to serve alongside and help bring children of Zambia out of poverty.
African Vision of Hope is one of the most linear non-profits I've encountered. A ridiculously high percentage of their resources go towards actually helping the children in Zambia that their efforts are focused on. They not only build schools and orphanages, but they provide literal truckloads of school (and other) supplies for these facilities. Beyond that, there is a concerted effort to make these programs and facilities self-sustaining, which is a great long-range goal and focus.
Nonprofits have a goal, and that's to drive our world to a better future. African Vision of Hope is driving that goal, exceptionally.
African Vision of Hope is the ONLY ministry I donate to because they are VERY fiscally responsible! Every penny donated goes directly to feed and educate 3000 orphans in Zambia.
It is mainly an all volunteer ministry with minimal overhead. No big salaries for the leadership.
I have personally traveled to Zambia 4 times with African Vision of Hope missionary teams.
AVOH needs our funds to help more children! They are doing an unbelievable job, but need more funds to build more schools and additional feeding programs.

I feel very good about donating to African Vision of Hope because I KNOW that nearly every penny of every dollar goes directly to help the orphans. AVOH does NOT have a large overhead at all. They run the ministry on a shoestring. I have also SEEN the effects of my donations by going on several mission trips with the team. I know the kids first hand and SEE the great work that AVOH is doing. African Vision of Hope is the ONLY ministry that I can confidently donate my time and money to and be ASSURED it is truly making a difference in the lives of 1500 orphans!!!
I love supporting African Vision of Hope! Their dedication to serving, feeding and educating children in Zambia is saving lives. There is an urgent need for help and they are making a difference!
African Vision of Hope truly goes above and beyond to better children's lives throughout various corners of Africa through their Christian focused education programs.
I love the ministry of AVOH as it is changing the lives of some of the most vulnerable people and children in the world. I had the privilege of being on a mission team and traveled to Lusaka this year. I saw and witnessed first hand of the way that AVOH is helping to meet the needs of the children and adults through education, nutrition and health needs. Most of all they are sharing the unconditional love of Christ daily. AVOH is providing many opportunities for children and young people to truly rise above the darkness of poverty that is so prevalent
in their country. The Staff and volunteers are unselfishly giving of their time and efforts to this ministry. My husband and I are thrilled to sponsor children with AVOH and support this ministry in any way.
This organization is doing wonderful work by changing the fortunes of children and giving them a future. The passion they have for the work shows through and you can genuinely see the changes and hope in the stories from the children who’s lives have been changed.
We got involved after hearing about African Vision of Hope from a friend. It’s been about 3 years now, and we are continually blown away by the quality, integrity and passion of AVOH! Last year we even went Africa and met our students we sponsor. How cool is that!!
I've been blessed to be a part of African Vision of Hope for about 10 years now. They've saved 100's in Zambia, not only physically/educationally, but spiritually as well. Their students' stories (going from living in jungle, fighting off hyenas, etc to attending school) are beyond amazing. AVOH is professional, competent, and organized. I've heard lots of horror stories from other African relief organizations, but not one from AVOH. Bob and Judi's devotion, empathy, and selfless dedication are a continuing inspiration to me.

I've been associated with AVOH for about 6 years now, and can say that I am proud to be a small part of its vision. The work they do is Godly and critical. They have a handful (at most) of paid staff in Africa, all US staff are solely volunteers. They are saving lives on a daily basis in Zambia, and greatly enhancing those they touch. Have known of other Zambian missions that had leadership and logistic issues, fortunately AVOH is well managed, and as efficient as it is visionary. Thanks be to God for showing his will to Bob and Judi, and to them for accepting and embracing it!
This is a nonprofit that is guided with a Christian heart and a sincere desire to bring hope and change to some of the neediest children in our world!
African Vision of Hope is a true blessing to be a part of! They are changing the lives of kids, orphans in Zambia, saving them from extreme poverty through education. Some are becoming teachers, doctors, electricians, and whatever professional or trade they want to become to “be the change!”
I went on mission with AVOH and it changed my life to continue to help serve them by creating awareness and fundraising for the annual Gala to help provide for their mission! Our family will always be a part of this great organization!
I have been involved with African Vision of Hope for over 5 years and have seen so many lives changed through participating in their mission trips and volunteering for them on this side of the world. Last year I got acquainted with a college student who went through the AVOH schools and is now attending college in Zambia studying to be a special education teacher. There are numerous stories like this one. They are the real deal. The children they serve truly are moving to change the future of a very poverty stricken country. Over 3000 students now attend school that without this organization would not be able to. They come from the streets, many having no families or anyone to care for them. Many have been exposed to abuse, human trafficking, sickness, trauma and things we can't imagine living through. However, these children are able to thrive in our schools, where they are loved, cared for and taught the love of Jesus. It is truly a life changing organization and everyone affiliated with it is the real deal. They believe in what they are doing 100 percent.

AVOH truly is living out the mission of "doing something" about poverty in Zambia. It is amazing to see all the work that goes into the mission here on this side of the world and then go there (which I've been twice now) and see how it is truly changing lives on the other side of the world. The enthusiasm in the children who now get to go to school, have medical care and know that they are loved is amazing. With some organizations you wonder if your donation is really getting to where it is supposed to go. I can tell you that is not a problem with AVOH.
It is difficult to concisely cover all that I know and belief AVOH to be! Lives are being rescued, hearts filled with love, minds being educated, tummy’s with food in them, medical and spiritual health restored, ground turned into food! The exponential growth over this non profit over the last decade is miraculous and inspiring!!! The landscape and future of Zambia is changing for the better!!!
I have been a child sponsor since 2011 at African Vision of Hope. I have seen lives changed for over 3000 vulnerable and orphaned children who have an opportunity to get an education, have a hot meal each day, receive medical care and spiritual development. I have received letters, pictures and updates on my sponsored children and get reports on how my donations are being used. I am honored to be a small part of this organization. It has changed my heart and expanded love to reach across the world.
I learned of African Vision of Hope (AVOH) through a work colleague, who’s wife served on the board. Shortly after making a donation to AVOH, the founder of the organization, Judi Bertels, called me to personally thank me, and I though “Who DOES that??!” I’ve been donating to charities for years without ever receiving a call.
Since then, I’ve gotten to know Judi and Bob Bertels. My husband and I interact with AVOH in a few ways: we volunteered a few times, we’ve gone on a mission trip and we sponsor a college student. Through AVOH, I was able to witness people living out James chapter 1.
Why do I say that? The staff at AVOH are doers of the Word not just listeners. They “look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress” (James 1:27), by meeting very practical needs: food, shelter, medical care, a trade, and an education. By doing this, they are demonstrating God’s love through action, while they are teaching it.
In 2017 and 2018, I had the privilege of going on a mission trip. The mission team was able to visit each school, which is an Oasis of order and optimism – sitting close to an area that is neither. Each school is situated within walking distance of the community it serves – a “compound” which is a collection of randomly scattered single-room shelters with dirt floors, no water, no electricity, no sanitation. Desperate conditions that I’ve never seen in the United States. I’ve had conversations with those children that have left me completely humbled and inspired. They have lived through impossible situations, such as homelessness as a child; slavery; and chronic sexual abuse – and have learned to forgive it; overcome it; and use that experience a fuel that propels them to become doctors, teacher, and nurses. For example, I sat down with a group of girls to “teach” bible study. Fortunately, I asked them about their favorite verse and the “why” behind it. Their stories were deeply personal and painful and their insights were profound. Rather than feeling sorry for themselves, or becoming bitter, they were grateful for the opportunity to go to the school. They proved the Truth of James 1:2-3, and allowed the trials to test their faith, and produce endurance that leads to spiritual maturity.
We also sponsor a smart, determined, hardworking college student, Clothilda. In her, and in the other children that I’ve met through AVOH, I recognize that those students have the potential to change not only their own lives, but to have a much broader impact in their communities. Their experience with suffering and deplorable living conditions drive them to want change and their education through AVOH equips them to enact it.
Finally, and this is really important to me as a donor, I’m confident that the donations are being used wisely, always intended to address the area of greatest need.
God Bless! Francine
African Vision of Hope houses and educates Zambian orphans who would otherwise have no chance to attend school, eat regularly, or learn about God. It's well managed, capably led, and staffed by willing volunteers. AVOH isn't just improving lives, it's saving them!
This is a wonderful organization that strives to end poverty in Zambia, Africa. They give their all to help children escape poverty and help them have hope for a future through education and through Jesus.
We learned of African Vision of Hope and began by sponsoring a child over 7 years ago through our Sunday School class. It has been amazing to watch the organization thrive under the leadership of the couple who founded it and the team they have built, as well as watching all the ways God has provided for the growth of their ministry. We have participated with the organization in several different ways and know that the biggest majority of the financial contributions we make go directly to helping the children they focus on. I have seen first hand the impact African Vision of Hope has on the lives, and the families and communities, of the children they serve. The organization has focused largely, but not solely, on educating and empowering the children, so they can become self-sufficient and the future leaders.
I am amazed at the level of commitment and accomplishment I see at African Vision of Hope. African Vision of hope is committed to bringing immediate and lasting solutions to the children of Zambia. To see where they started to present day is nothing short of a miracle. The hard work, dedication, and most of all love poured into these children is truly of God. AVOH continues to look for ways to provide food, education, clean water, developing leadership and economic skills to help break the poverty cycle and learn about God's love. I personally have joined AVOH in 4 mission trips to Zambia and the gratitude and happiness I have seen in the faces of these children is amazing. The relatives/parent of students are also grateful for a way for their children to grow and better themselves. AVOH is very responsible with child sponsorship and donations. They are great stewards of the monies given to support this work.

I am so impressed by the AVOH team, not only have they given their all, but almost all funding is given back into the program to help the children of Zambia succeed by helping them to stay in school, graduate, learn a trade and be productive people in their communities. African Vision of Hope (AVOH) allowed me and my husband to experience the love of the Zambian people and to give back what little we had to offer. These mission trips have changed our lives! AVOH has been able to provide food, water, school supplies, medicine, a school nurse, housing through the orphanage, jobs for local teachers, teaching farming so everyone can provide for their families and much more. I am impressed what they can do on so little. AVOH is to be commended in their dedication to their child sponsor program. Only $30 a month and they can provide so much, WOW
My wife and I have been associated with AVOH and its founders, Bob and Judi Bertels since the beginning. We continue to volunteer and take trips to Zambia with AVOH because they are the REAL DEAL when it comes to non-profit organizations and doing GOD's work. The kids AVOH helps are some of the poorest of the poor in the world. We have personally witnessed the conditions in Zambia and are amazed at the difference that has taken place since our first visit 10+ years ago. It only takes one time to witness the gentle smile on the face of a double-orphaned child, who you took the time to talk with, for you to realize the kids now have HOPE for their future. That, by far, makes all the work worth it!!
Integrity, compassion and accountability are hallmarks of African Vision of Hope. This organization and all of its volunteers are amazing! They are professional, personal and spiritual. They not only care about each and every child in Zambia, but they also care about the volunteers and staff on this side of the globe. I only have good words and praise to say about African Vision of Hope. I feel blessed to be a part of this amazing organization!

African vision of hope gives children with no means to help themselves a chance to educate themselves and break the cycle of extreme poverty!
Compassion in action~that's African Vision of Hope. Ending extreme poverty in Africa one child at a time~that's African Vision of Hope. Purpose driven~GOD DRIVEN. African Vision of Hope changes lives by educating, equipping and empowering our donors, volunteers and employees to educate, equip and empower children in Africa so they have a hope for their future.
I have known Judy and Bob Bertels for over 10 yrs. We are members of the same church. My husband and I are volunteering for AVOH, and also sponsor children in Zambia. I have never seen money stretched so far. AVOH is very frugal with donations, but also because God blesses and grows as we partner with Him.

Today my wife and I have three orphan girls that we sponsor in Zambia and both of us have been on mission trips to Zambia to be the hands and feet of CHRIST! I was one of those who thought I could not make a change in this fallen world, but the AVOH family has given me the tools to help my brothers and sisters half way around the world in Zambia! You can donate your time, talents or treasures thru AVOH online. Do something! Make a donation, sponsor a child, volunteer with work that needs to be done, go on a mission trip to Zambia!!!

You will not find a more committed group of leaders than at AVOH. I love what they do, but I really love the way they do it. I will always support this wonderful mission!!
African Vision of Hope is a wonderful organization that genuinely reaches all aspects of life in Zambia. As a volunteer, I was privileged to see where the donations go and how they are used. I was pleasantly surprised to learn how the organization trains Zambians to continue the mission and use all materials wisely. The passion and love of all volunteers was always present as they were involved in multiple ministries including health, children, youth, women, and men. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this great organization and I am greatly influenced for the rest of my life by AVOH, its people, and its mission.
African Vision of Hope does an excellent job addressing all of the needs of Zambia. It is a well-rounded non-profit. They address the issues of education, poverty, hunger, faith, etc. Their greatest strength is that they equip and empower Zambians to further the work there, and that is crucial to any non-profit's success.
African Vision of Hope believes in empowering some of the poorest and most hopeless people in the world. It is amazing to see how this organization has grown and truly changed and saved lives in Zambia.
This organization is also changing the lives of people in this country. Being a part of this organization and volunteering is a great experience. Surrounding yourself with like minded Christians who want to make a difference is definitely a great way to serve!
My grand-daughter and I participated in a mission trip to Zambia this year with AVOH. It is truly amazing the work they are doing. Changing the lives of children and the face of Zambia.
African Vision of Hope is a ministry of Love to the orphans and widows in Zambia. Aids has devastated the continent leaving kids with NO parents or support groups. AVOH is trying to fill the gap with food, clothing, shelter, education and spiritual guidance to the poorest of the poor. Jesus said " do this to the least of these and you have done it unto me.' Supporting AVOH is responding to the call to Love and Help "the least of these". AVOH also supports the Baptist Theological Seminary with funds to train new pastors. Pastors who have a personal relationship with Christ and share it everywhere.
Three generations of our family have visited and ministered to these kids. First hand, up close.... it's real. AVOH is making a difference, one kid at a time. Thank you Lord for touching the hearts that serve.

I was introduced to AVOH through our church Life Group and joined the volunteer ranks. It's been said you will never be the same after taking a mission trip. Simply put...YEP! You can not truly appreciate the conditions the orphans of Zambia live in. Pictures alone can not tell the story. Your heart is touched differently when you personally visit and touch kids with no food, little water, sparse clothing living in unsanitary conditions in tiny shacks. You see desperate kids with little or no Hope. AVOH helps change these lives with Christian Love. They provide food, clothing, shelter, education.... but most importantly, Hope. Hope for today, Hope for he future and Hope for eternity with a loving God. In 6 years I have witnessed this effort triple in size and it continues to grow serving more and more vulnerable children. Our Life Group sponsors a child who graduates from High School in 2014. What a blessing for her. What an even bigger blessing for us. Yes, there are a lot of orphans in the vast sea called sub-Sahara Africa. AVOH helps one at a time. That one helps another, who helps another.... It's a biblical vision. Jesus called it The Great Commission.
Our daughter has participated in a mission trip to Zambia through AVOH and has seen first hand how important their ministry is and how our contributions are changing lives.
My name is Kent Schuette and I am a pastor. Our church, Praise Community Fellowship has been involved with African Vision of Hope for the past three years. One way I can simply describe AVOH is that God obviously has His hand on this mission and ministry. There is no other way to account for the hundreds of lives being changed daily. The AVOH campus teach the hope and saving grace of Jesus to the people and Children of Zambia and that hope is tangible and working. Children and adults are being saved, fed, educated, loved, clothed, sheltered, and given "hope!" This is an amazing ministry that God is blessing. If you are looking for a place to give to or get involved with, this would definitely be a ministry to look into. All I know is God brought Bob and Judi, founders of AVOH, into my life and ministry for a reason! We have had a couple of our members go to Zambia on a mission trip and both of them have gone back again because their lives were changed. AVOH, a God blessed ministry of light and hope! Sincerely, pastor kent
My husband, daughter and myself were blessed to go to lusaka, Africa about 3 years ago. We plan to go again, hopefully next year. It was a totally life changing experience. Wonderful group to be with!!
In 13 days, I will be on three continents in one day, on my way to Zambia with the great organization, AVOH. When I was twelve, I was introduced to Zambia and African Vision Of Hope through a dear friend who had been there before. I said, CAN I GO?! Of course, I was too young, but now that I am old enough, I am able to go on this journey that is already changing lives, including mine. God is working through AVOH. That is a fact. Lives are being changed and souls are being saved on both the North American and African continents through the Holy Spirit that is working through AVOH and its volunteers. It is truly awesome and amazing and humbling to be a part of such a Spirit-filled, Christian organization that truly lives the Great Commission.

This organization is making an earnest effor to bring aid to the peoe f Zambia. They are honest with their finances, giving of their time, and passionate about the gospel of Jesus Christ. African Vision of Hope is a wonderful organization run by wonderful people with a heart for what God is doing in Zambia.
After praying and thinking about going to Zambia with African Vision of Hope, I officially decided to last fall. It wasn't until I had actually step foot into their office had I realized the hard work and dedication the Bertels, Kasi, and all the volunteers had put into this organization. Throughout this past summer, I have been volunteering, helping with various projects that needed to be done. As I've spent time at the office, I've gotten to know the character AVOH has. As a human, it is easy to get frustrated and impatient with situations you cannot control. AVOH doesn't let that human aspect sway them in their work, rather they let God in to give them what they need to transform lives over in Zambia. That's what I admire most - they rely on Christ to be enough. I am so excited to join this organization this month to travel to Zambia and let God work. African Vision of Hope is one of the most top notch, loving, intentional organizations I have ever worked with.
I met the Bertels about 2007, and learned of their ministry. My assumption was that they were volunteers in a large organization, imagine my surprise when I learned they FOUNDED African Vision of Hope. I've been a proud donor ever since, have seen AVOH grow in scope, in vision, and in results. It's an honor to know people of faith who don't just profess it, they live it daily. The organization completely obliterates the attitude that "I'm just one person, what can I do?" Obviously, the answer is "as much as you want to." It's a lesson we all need to learn, and Judi and Bob (and their many volunteers as well) live that lesson.

I am very impressed AVOH. Almost all of the money that is donated to this organization goes directly to support the children. Every month they serve over 30,000 meals to the children. There are 5 schools in 5 different villages of Zambia that provide an education to children who otherwise would not be able to attend school because of not having shoes and not being able to pay the school fees. I have been to Zambia twice as part of the medical team. I was able to see how much the health of the children had improved at one of our remote schools in just one year. By providing education, food, basic medical care, and spiritual guidance, we give the children HOPE. If you were to look into the eyes of most of the children in Zambia, you would see nothing but hopelessness. But the children that this organization touches have a brilliant hope in there eyes. They know that someone cares about them. This is one organization that makes a world of differences in the outcome of a child's future.
A V of H is directly educating and caring for children in extreme poverty who otherwise would have no real hope for the future. It is accurate that virtually all of the money raised by this organization goes directly to benefit these children. I have been to Zambia five times and have seen the obvious improvement in the children, their living conditions. Their educational progress is pretty amazing. This organization builds schools, built an orphanage and provides basic medical care while clothing and feeding over 1000 kids at its schools, which are located in 5 different places. In addition, A V of H provides financial assistance to seminary students and employs numerous teachers at its schools, also providing adult education in agriculture and seamstress activities. It's a pretty incredible accomplishment for a couple from Edwardsville, Illinois, in only 6-7 years. This organization has proven that it is really worthy of the donations it receives and deserves the continued funding of charitably minded folks.
African Vision Of Hope is a life-changing organization!!!
For the past six years, we have donated to African Vision of Hope and will continue to do so for as many years as possible. Almost 100 percent of the dollars donated provide 2 meals a day, clothing, education and medical services to over 1400 children in desperate conditions in 5 areas of Zambia. Being part of a mission team, we were able to experience this organization in action. We visited the villages and schools, met the staff, the educators and children first hand and see the results of this great organization's tireless efforts to reach out and pour out from their hearts to make a difference in the lives of children.
AVOH has changed the lives of many, many children and has changed our lives as well. We consider it a privilege to donate and serve this great organization!
I have been associated with AVOH for more than 5 years. The team is able to provide so much for so many with so little. If the corporate world could grasp the vision of this great nonprofit, no telling what kind of products could be produced. I will continue to volunteer with this group, regardless of my location. Thank you for helping me appreciate life in a whole new way.
If there is a one "non-profit" that can label themselves as such, African Vision of Hope is it. This is one of the few organizations I have been involved in that does not get distracted and only ever works to pursue the cause of charity. Every second of every minute is spent for the advancement of well-being and education of the under privileged in one of the poorest nations in the world. If you would like to find a community that will help you pursue your philanthropic goals, look no further. Your time, energy, and financial resources could not be better allocated than with the people of this wonderful organization.
I found it hard to believe AVOH was able to provide food, water, medical care and education for over 1000 children, supply AIDS widows with sewing machines and vocational training, start a farm, and financially assist seminary students - until I traveled with the group to Zambia this year. I met and worked with the staff and volunteers, visited 3 of the AVOH schools and witnessed the impact of the mission on the people they serve. The practical care and education for these children and women have given them hope for a future in a nation where most people have none. I have seen the incredible integrity of the men and women of AVOH on both sides of the Atlantic, and now understand how God is able to bless and multiply the efforts of this organization.
I AM SO IMPRESSED WITH THIS GROUP BECAUSE ALMOST ALL OF THE FUNDS THAT ARE COLLECTED GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHILDREN IN AFRICAN VISION OF HOPE AS THERE IS NOT A BIG PAID STAFF. MOST OF THE WORK IS DONE BY VOLUNTEERS DUE TO THE EFFORTS OF JUDY AND BOB BERTELS WHO HAVE DONE A MAGNIFICENT JOB OF ORGANIZING AFRICAN VISION OF HOPE. I HAVE HELPED WITH THE GOLF TOURNAMENT AND GALA FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS AND AM FOREVER AMAZED AT THE HOURS OF WORK, TIME, AND MONEY THAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN MOTIVATED TO HELP WITH AND GIVE IN THIS VENTURE. WHEN YOU WORK WITH AFRICAN VISION OF HOPE, YOU CAN PERSONALLY SEE THE GROWTH AND THE WORK THAT IS BEING DONE IN AFRICA THROUGH PERSONAL CONTACT WITH THE BERTELS, THE WEBSITE, LETTERS RECEIVED FROM THE KIDS, ACTUALPEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO HAVE GONE TO AFRICA TO WORK AT THE SCHOOLS, ORPHANAGE, FARM, AND MEDICAL CENTER. THE VOLUNTEER BASE FOR THIS ORGANIZATION IS VERY DEDICATED. EACH YEAR SOMETHING "BIG" SEEMS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED FOR THE AFRICAN VISION OF HOPE CHILDREN. JUDY AND BOB SEEM TO ALWAYS BE PLANNING TO SEE THAT THIS CONTINUES TO GET BIGGER AND BETTER SO THAT MORE CHILDREN CAN BE INCLUDED AND RECEIVE HELP.
I remember boys from a Zambia Boys Choir stranded in the USA back in the 1990's. Judi and Bob Bertels brought two into their home, educated and raised them. In Zambia, the boy's families were destitute, plus many widows and children needing food, housing and education . AVOH started schools, built an orphanage with donations. Today I sponsor a highschool girl, praying she will have a chance for a good future.
I am a new volunteer with African Vision of Hope, but I have known about this wonderful organization for the past 4 years. The work that they do, as well as the integrity with which they work, is exceptional. They are answering a God-given call to serve and are a great example to anyone who feels led to join in the work.
I have served on the Board and worked as a volunteer for African Vision of Hope for over five years. I have seen first hand having gone on a mission trip to Zambia three out of the last four years what difference they are making in that country helping widows and orphans. They are making a difference by giving over 1000 orphans a free education, two meals a day, medical care and a chance to be a productive member in their society. One of the principals said a few years ago that they are giving hope to the hopeless. What is so impressive is the fact that only around 5% of their budget is spent on Administrative funds in the US. So you are assured that the money taken in goes directly to help these children and orphans. AVOH has certainly blessed my life. We have a CEO and Director of Operations who work tirelessly both here in the US and Zambia to see that we are making a difference in that country.
I have been involved with African Vision of Hope (AVOH) in various roles over a 6 or 7 year period. I've volunteered, served as a board member and have visited the schools, orphanage and seminary in Zambia, Africa that are supported through AVOH. In the same period, I have been involved with several other non-profit organizations. I can honestly say that AVOH makes a greater impact on the lives of the children, adults and the communities where it serves in Zambia - but also the lives of the volunteers - than any other organization that I have been associated with. Growing from helping to provide aids medicine to building four (4) schools, an orphanage, establishing a farm, and supplying food, water and medical care to over 1000 children in less than 10 years is nothing short of a miracle. If I had not witnessed it and been a part of it for the better part of AVOH's existance, I would have a hard time believing the transformed lives as a result of AVOH. Five Stars.
God has led me to the international mission field- finally I answered! The first year I went to Zambia, Africa with the AVOH organization, I fwent thinking that the next year I would go somewhere else. I wasn't in Zambia two days until I knew in my heart that this was the work I would continue to do until I can no longer. I am thrilled to say that I have just finished my 4th trip. The people and students we work with at our schools, churches and orphanage have become family to me. I love the fact that AVOH develops relationships within the structure of Zambia- Rotary for example. Farmland has been purchased to help feed the students as well as teach them to sustain themselves once their academic career is finished. AVOH employs adults as teachers, cooks and adminstration. A nurse is now on staff, after AVOH opened a clinic on our largest campus. This month, our first class of seniors will graduate! AVOH does not just go for a couple of weeks and then move on. Work is being done daily to help our Zambian brothers and sisters to improve and sustain their lives. It is my joy and honor to serve AVOH. I pray I will be allowed to do so for a very, very long time to come!
This organization directly assists orphans and needy children in Zambia with health matters and providing them an education. It has very low administrative costs, as a result of which most money raised by this charitable group goes directly to the relief of the children. Volunteers go to Zambia a couple times per year for about 10 days per trip, working directly with the children and adult employees of the 4 schools locations and the orphanage administered by the group. Active building projects include another school and facilities at a farm, where agricultural training is conducted, in addition to which crops are grown to feed kids. Adult education is also provided in sewing classes, making school uniforms for the children, thus providing jobs for the adult women and uniforms at lower cost.
AVOH brings HOPE to the Hopeless and allows those who serve this amazing organization a life changes experiance. I have seen first hand AVOH changes lifes as my son and I traveled to the mission fields of Africa. Becuase of AVOH these beautiful children have HOPE and a future. I am so proud to serve AVOH
I am amazed by African Vision of Hope. I have been to their offices and to their sites in Zambia to witness first hand how much good they do. They love the people they serve and they are wonderful stewards of the money and resourses they receive. They do all they can to make sure every penny is given to the children they serve and they do everything from a base of love.
I can't say enough about AVOH! This organization is top notch and does such an amazing job of trying to make life better and share the gospel with children in Zambia. My husband and I have helped the organization in various roles and financially support their ministry. We have been very blessed by our small roles in this great organization. AVOH is a winner in my book.
African Vision of Hope started because one person in a small town in Illinois heard that kids in Africa needed help and she wanted to do something. Since then over 1000 orphans in Zambia and their families have been given schools, clothes, and food. The schools and orphanages are run at a local level be a Zambian man of character and integrity. The money given to African Vision of Hope helps kids in such practical ways. I recently became a child sponsor, and I am so glad that I did. My parents have made a few trips to Zambia to visit their sponsored children and see the work being done. I highly highly recommend this non-profit.
From the start of AVOH, until this day, it is an extrordinary journey of hope, love and growth. I personally have experienced blessings through the giving of my time, talents and teasures. Each and every detail of a donation of goods, time or finances is used for the kingdom of God, and He is receiving glory for the results! Our time is short here in this world, what we do with what we have been entrusted with it is paramount!! If you are reading about AVOH for the first time, please take a moment to consider and pray about what exactly the Lord would have YOU be a part of with regard to AVOH. My life has forever been changed and enriched by being involved with this ministry. For this, I thank the Lord, Jesus Christ
I have been working with African Vision of Hope (AVOH) for about 7 years. I can't tell you what a different this charity has been able to do through the hard work of the founders and volunteers. It really shows that a small group of people can truly make a life changing difference in so many people's lives. For the first time ever, the people supported by AVOH truly have HOPE. My husband went on a mission trip and was just blown away by these people in Africa who have no material things, but are sincerely happy. They cherish everything we do for them. They are getting an education, medical, spiritual, and learning a trade so they can create a livelihood for their family. Definitely a worthwhile charity!!
Our family has sponsored a little girl in Zambia through African Vision of Hope for a number of years. We keep the letters she has written and the photos we've received from AVOH posted on a bulletin board, and her words and beautiful smile are such a blessing. We clearly see the difference AVOH is making in her life.
