Mission: The primary purpose of the african communities public health coalition (acphc) is to improve personal and community health and wellness within the african community by: increasing the availability of culturally-relevant physical and mental health services; providing education to reduce the stigma of physical and mental illness among african people; and facilitating social justice through advocacy.
Programs: African communities public health coalition (african coalition) in collaboration with the los angeles department of mental health has produced culturally competent curriculum for lay person to be resources for the community. African coalition continued with the project that increases mental health awareness and education, reduce stigma and promote mental health services. The african coalition and it contracting partners, and the community continue to work together to develop ways to make community services more accessible, cultural competent better integrated, and outcome-focused. African coalition making an effort to become more client-focused; valuing community partnerships and collaborations; emphasizing cultural values and integrity; and using a strengths-based and multidisciplinary team approach.
african coalition immigration services: in terms of immigration services, the coalition has been on focusing on education and outreach through a contract with california department of social services (cdss) from january until december 2017. The coalition has exceeded its expectations and reached out over 2000 community members. Currently, the coalition has the same contract with cdss from january december 2018 and continues focusing on outreaching and education. Through the coalition's existing grassroots outreach programs, we have identified that african immigrants are in needs of further immigration services. African coalition serve the communities with african pro-bono attorneys to provides other immigration services (oir) and naturalization.
