Programs: Aam stages africa fest every august, a day-long celebration in madison of african foods, crafts, and culture. Africa fest begins with a 5k run/walk called strides for africa aimed at raising money for water wells in africa. About 3,500 people from the south-central wisconsin area attended africa fest in 2017.
aam organizes an all-africa picnic every july (about 100 attend), and a new year's eve gala every dec. 31 (about 100 attend), to provide occasions for members and friends to socalize, exchange information, and provide mutual support. The annual meeting also serves this purpose.
aam encourages the pursuit of education by its youth and african-american youth, through its annual graduates appreciation night (about 100 people attend) and by raising money for and awarding scholarships to high school leavers entering college.
