Africa Fire Mission is a great organization to invest your time and resources! As Africa develops, firefighters struggle to keep up with modern equipment and training necessary to fight fires. Most of the continent still fights fires with no breathing apparatus, proper PPE, or portable radios- even in major cities with millions of people!AFM works to train firefighters, provide protective clothing, and find sustainable ways to advance fire service capabilities. I’ve volunteered with AFM three times since 2021, and my next trip to Kenya is scheduled for September 2024. I hope you’ll support AFM’s mission!
My husband and I have supported Africa Fire Mission because we believe in everything that they do. We had the opportunity to travel to Africa a couple of years ago to visit the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. We were joined by Nancy Moore, Executive Director of AFM, and Jose Ngunjiri, Fire Safety Officer, who resides in the Nairobi area. During our visit to several of the corragated houses Jose would educate the families on fire safety. Jose even made sure they had the phone number to call in case of a fire emergency. The millions of people that live in this area do not have kitchens. They use propane to heat for cooking. A lot of the time the kids do the cooking. AFM has created a Fire Safety Show that airs on Akili TV and has reached over 13 million children. Education is a large part of what AFM does. They send a team of firefighters and other volunteers to train, empower, support and encourage those in developing communities. They also coordinate the gathering and transporting fire equipment to those communities. There is no telling how many lives they have saved since the beginning but I am pleased to have a small part in such a worthy organization as Africa Fire Mission!!
AFM has been one of my favorite nonprofits ever since I witnessed its inception over 10 years ago. I was on a mission trip with the founders and have enjoyed watching it grow with the help of excellent leadership and volunteers. They are transparent and communicate well with their donors. It is not something that we in the US often think about-the fire service in a foreign country. But it is very important and AFM saves lives!
I first traveled to Kenya with Africa Fire Mission (AFM) in 2019 to help with the annual training symposium in Nairobi. Five years later I recently returned from my fourth AFM trip, this time to Malawi. AFM knows simply providing material support will not fully help and develop the fire service in Africa. By training, supporting, and empowering the firefighters in Africa AFM is helping them to develop their fire service for the community they serve, not a copy of the American fire service. This also gives the African firefighters pride and ownership in a service they have created not something simply handed to them.
While the continued support of the African fire service shows the dedication of AFM to its cause, the growth and innovation in how training and public education is delivered to ever increasing number of firefighters and civilians is truly testament of comment to a safer Africa.
Building a sustainable fire service in Africa is vital to protect life and property. Africa Fire Mission has empowered local firefighters to advocate for their needs. They have also encouraged firefighters to train themselves and others. The success of Africa Fire Mission comes from the passion of the leadership. I’m proud to donate my time and money to such a great cause.
We have been privileged to watch Africa Fire Mission from it's beginnings when a need to train and equip firefighters in Africa was laid on their hearts. This community of individuals qualified and excited to train and empower communities beyond Africa has grown in many ways. We love hearing stories from those affected by this organization of their experiences. It is amazing see how their dream has positively affected the lives of so many!

Africa Fire Mission is doing amazing work! They work hard to find qualified fire fighters to provide excellent training for under-educated fire fighter in other countries. They work very well with local officials to help guide them in directions to provide better training, support, and PPE for their stations.
My husband and I are will be going on our third mission with AFM this year because we believe in their mission and work. We enjoy volunteering and donating to AFM bc they are amazing people who are promoting an amazing mission!

After 26 years of leaving in United States I asked God, "what has come of me in USA" It was not too long after that, when AFM came to path. At that point I realized that I have been getting prepared the last 27 year to go back home and serve my people. I had a chance to spend November of 2022 serving with AFM as a fire fighter to my people and home land. If you have a chance to go or support I guarantee it will change your life or your money back :) We can never go wrong doing good, we are a drop in the ocean but without that drop the ocean will be non existence.
Africa Fire Mission is an exemplary organization working to both educate and empower people in Africa and beyond. They do a fantastic job of educating the communities on fire safety and prevention. AFM does a great job of working with local organizations and individuals to provide sustainable programs and ongoing to support to those they serve.
2022 Kenya was my first time serving with AFM, hopefully the first of many. Being newer to fire service, I don't have the level of experience that most of my teammates had, but there was still a place there for me to teach and help train participants. I was also able to learn from my teammates and the Kenyans as well. The challenges African Firefighters face are brutal. From lacking basic turnout gear, reliable water source and aging equipment, to constantly worrying about theft of equipment and a negative public image, they really put a lot at risk every time they go on a call. With advancements in so many different fields becoming more readily available to more people come new dangers. Africa Fire Mission's work in developing countries is vital to help these nations prepare for that danger.
My experience with AFM was life-changing. AFM cares about the people they are teaching, the communities, and the firefighters who are participating in the mission. They do everything within their power to ensure all have a positive and safe experience.
AFM is an amazing non-profit organization that helps teach and empower firefighters and personnel within the fire service industry in Africa. The manner in which AFM presents their service knowledge and provides hands-on training over the years has made a huge impact on the improvement and level of education to those serving in the fire industry. Each year, AFM brings a diverse, knowledgeable and eager group of volunteers from all over the world to run a fire academy. The week of the academy, the volunteers guide those in the African fire service so that they can continue developing proficiency in the operation of their service. This academy has tripled in the last few years and it has been amazing to see the impact that AFM has made in strengthening the fire service in Africa!!
I have been working with AFM for over 8 years as an instructor in Kenya and Zambia, consultant work in Nigeria, and as part of the AFM Board of Directors. The work we are doing to train, encourage, and empower the African firefighters has truly made a difference. The dedication, commitment, and hard work by all those involved with AFM is amazing and is helping the African fire service. It has been an honor for me to work with AFM and to give back to the fire service.

I started my work with the Africa Fire Mission in 2022. They do very important and good work in Africa. We made some great impact on the trip to Malawi last year. Working with the organization and the other volunteers is very inspiring. AFM is making a difference and we can help them!

We here in the U.S. take for granted the ability to dial 911 and have emergency services just a few minutes away. Meeting and becoming friends with the founders of AFM, Nancy and Dave, opened my eyes to the lack of those services all over the world, but particularly in many areas of Africa. When I first met them they were already making huge inroads to bringing the knowledge, training and equipment needed to areas of Africa that had previously no way to address the fires that would wipe out whole villages in moments and had begun reaching out to Ukraine. A whole new climate, new culture, new need and yet the same dedication to meeting those people right where they were and providing exactly what was needed, be that training or equipment or mental, emotional and/or spiritual support and guidance. I've since met others who support and volunteer for Africa Fire Mission and the one common denominator in each is integrity and compassion. There is no greater love than to give of your gifts, your talents, your life to those in need and AFM embodies that in great and small ways all over the globe.
I am so proud of the work by Dave, Nancy, and the Africa Fire Mission Team, and I am consistently sharing information with my Safety colleagues to try to get them involved. As a Safety Professional, I am excited to be able to join a trip in 2023 to help continuously educate on Fire Safety and contribute to such a great cause.

I have personally worked beside some of these amazing people. Dave and Nancy have done nothing but put others first. Africa Fire Mission have not only given supplies to those in need, but more importantly have given education and time. Even when they are a world apart, they keep in touch answering questions and devoting time to virtual education. They work with the local government and are sure to do things the proper way for the areas they're helping. The schools and communities of the growing number of areas that they and God have touched are better because of these wonderful kind people. Africa Fire Mission is an amazing nonprofit organization to support. There are many organizations that provide various types of relief work around the world but Africa Fire Mission is one that provides immediate life saving training, knowledge, encouragement and empowerment to the areas they serve. In June of 2022 I'll be traveling again with Africa Fire Mission to Malawi where we will have the opportunity to train every firefighter in the country! The work that we will be doing and the impact for the community is immeasurable. Live will be changed and lives will be saved. I discovered AFM as I was winding down my career as an active firefighter. I was looking for new ways to be in service to others and share what I learned in over 20 years as a firefighter. AFM proved to be the perfect venue. The mission is pure and simple: train, support, empower and encourage firefighters.
I teach weekly classes online for AFM. I went to Kenya in the fall of 2021 and will be going back again in the fall of 2022 and I write for their blog. I do all this and more because AFM is a great organization.
I've been involved with a lot of different ones over the years, but AFM is one the best run and true to mission that I've associated with.
