Adapt-A-Vet is a wonderful organization that helps disabled Veterans who are most in need. I attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for a veteran’s home that was condemned by the city and in dire need of repairs that the veteran was not financially nor physically able to do himself. Adapt-A-Vet volunteered to take on the project with help from Home Depot and other local companies, and volunteers, the veteran’s home was totally restored. The veteran & his family were so grateful. It is very heartwarming to know that Adapt-A-Vet goes over and above to help our military veterans in need here in Military City USA!! Thank You ADAPT-A-VET!!!

I am a disabled Vietnam veteran who is a volunteer for Adapt-a-
Vet. I have assisted in repairing disabled veterans homes to make their lives better. We just finished working on a 76 year old disabled veterans home that had been condemned by the City of San Antonio. It turned out to be a total rebuilt because of the condition of the house. The veteran had been living in a
shed in the back of the home for about 4 years. It was such a wonderful feeling to see the veteran and his wife in their rebuild home. This is the types of project Adapt-a-Vet is
Involved with.

I have been working with Adapt-A-Vet since 2015 and I am proud of the work they have done in a short period of time. The organization fills a critical void in services for aging and disabled Veterans that most non-profits cannot assist with due to lack of funding or experience in home modifications and building construction.

Across the country there is a huge need for organizations like Adapt-A-Vet to ensure our senior and disabled Veterans have access to services for home repairs, home modification for ease of access and quality of life, and to provide the Veteran the ability to live independent on a fixed income. I have seen first hand the life changing work they have done when there was no other options available in the community. Their dedication to the Veteran community, commitment to family members, and selfless service is a model for all Veteran non-profit organizations to follow.

I have known the Adapt-a-Vet organization from the very beginning and have had the pleasure of being there to help with some of the projects they have done for our vets. The key people have a deep love for our vets and all they do is for them. Many charities do not use all the donations for the help of the vets, but this one does. The vast majority of the donations go to the vets, not a corporate structure. This is where my donations for vets goes.

I have seen their work first hand and seen how much heart and soul their team puts into each project they work on. I really just want to say "thank you" for your passion and willingness to help our veterans. To see veterans move forward in life after AdaptAVet has resorted thier home. I really appreciate all the help that AdaptAVet has provided not only to my family but many other veterans as well. Also Bringing awareness to the city of San Antonio that veterans need help. Without your organization it would have been impossible to get the Alvarado's back into thier home. Your kindness and generosity will remain with our family. I know this is long overdue, but I really appreciated.

There are many veterans related programs but the need is great. Adapt A Vet finds these heroes who have slipped through the cracks and get them help in their homes. I’ve watched them care for Vietnam veterans when no one else would lend a hand. Great caring people.

After Hurricane Harvey, which I lost everything,I went to stay in my hometown. I didn't know if I would come back. I'm disabled with Muscular Dystrophy. The year before Harvey I was hit by a pick up which threw me 60 ft. I was in my powerchair crossing the street only this time after dark,no street light,no crosswalk. Lights on my chair weren't on either. The trailer I lived in before Harvey was now unlivable. I had met Russell Edge 20 something yrs ago while bartending. We became fast friends. He's was like a brother.. When he heard I was back in Port Aransas and staying in a hotel that FEMA was paying for,he had already put in a request for a bigger trailer cuz he had his grandson staying with him. The only problem Russell had to choose between me and another friend. The other person told Russell to give me the trailer cuz I didn't have any way of ever getting reestablished or getting what I lost back. I had never heard of Adapt a vet. My mother and step father were very involved with my hometown VFW. If it weren't for Russell and Mike,Roxann I won't have what I have now.

I was 2 months from retirement when Hurricane Harvey hit. We were ground zero and he destroyed our home and we lost everything. We were virtually homeless after that staying with friends and family but that situation was untenible. We did this for a year and then a friend told us about Adapt-A-Vet and since I am a Navy veteran I applied for assistance and Adapt-A-Vet proceded to arrange for us to recieve an RV to live in. Mike and Roxann got us that RV and outfitted it witj everything we would need, dishes, towels, furniture, food and set it up in an RV park in Port Aransas. We have been living in it for the last 2 years. My wife and I are so grateful for their generosity and caring and they still look in on us from time to time and help if we need it. Adapt-A-Vet was and is a fantastic organization dedicated to the welfare of all us veterans who need assistance cant say enough good things about them, we would be homeless if not for Adapt-A-Vet.

We first worked with the founders of Adapt A Vet years ago, before they started their own organization, when they were the builders of a very customized home for a double amputee. We volunteered to help lay sod in the yard. We were amazed at how they were so focused on the little things in the home that would make ‘living’ and doing everyday chores easier for the veteran. And since he was into music, they created a special room in his home, for him to play and record his music, which was his way of escaping the life he had now been dealt. The next time we worked with AAV (they were no longer building houses but were now adapting existing homes that the veteran already owned) they were running waterlines to the house of a wheelchair bound veteran and his wife, who had lived without water for many years (hauling water from the neighbors’ outdoor faucet). We gladly donated money to help with the permits and materials and installation. The next time we worked with them was right after the Wimberly flood, when a double amputee, his wife and 5 kids (ages 1 yr - 8 yrs) spent the night in a tree when the creek came up and flooded their home. A neighbor had loaned them a small RV to stay in temporarily until they could figure something out. When AAV found out about this family, they were able to get a double wide mobile home donated rent-free (that was already set up on some land) for them to stay in while AAV set out to raise money to rehab their flooded home. We helped AAV move the family to the mobile home, where AAV had furnished it with everything they would need, as the family had lost all their belongings. We also (without hesitation) stepped up and bought a whole table at their fundraiser event, and purchased auction items (as did our guests) at that event. We never hesitate when they call, as we know their hearts are in to helping every vet they can, and they make a difference in every veteran’s life they touch. These folks are down-to-earth, don’t have a lot of overhead, and manage to stretch every dime that is donated as far as it can go. We would not hesitate in the least, to donate to this organization again.

I've known Mike and Rox at Adaptavet for about 6 or 7 years now. We've been talking to them about making adaptations to our home to accommodate my double amputee husbands needs. We procrastinated a long time deciding to move house before we used our adaptation grants.... In the meantime we worked with Mike and Rox helping veterans in the Coastal Bend when hurricane Harvey hit. They are simply amazing people... and make amazing things happen, it was a wonderful experience to be a part of, and they have made life so much easier for the vets there and in working with the VFW there have made - have given every Coastal Bend veteran a home from home.
Sadly whilst we were waiting for the VA to authorize our grants my husband died, and all the applications died with him leaving me without the money to adapt our home as well as a huge loss of income to contend with.. Mike and Rox have just been there for me from day 1. Reassuring me that my disabled daughter and I would be OK- helping me navigate the terribly difficult days at the beginning, from rescuing me when my waste disposal dumped gallons of dirty water on the floor, to sending me their new puppy pictures all night when i couldn't sleep . They have helped me secure some funding to get through these first months and are still working with me to make sure we have a safe and finished place to live in spite of losing our VA grants.
I cant say enough about how wonderful they are. I love them both dearly and can't recommend them highly enough... they are angels in cowboy boots!

We are forever thankful to Adapt A Vet for how they helped us when my husband needed to have modifications done to our home. They repaired some things done wrong by a previous contractor and didn’t stop there. They made our home gorgeous and so much easier for my husband to get around. We love the owners who were always there for us!

Hi My name is Raeanne and I would like to share my wonderful experience with Adapt a Vet. I have live in Port Aransas, TX for 9 years before my home was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. Low and behold I came across Adapt a Vet who was signing up military families up for replacement homes with trailers. My name among other locals was entered into a waiting list and when the funding can me through, Adapt a Vet came through on their promise and got me new trailer home! They are a fabulous, outstanding, generous charity organization. I can’t thank Mike and Roxanne enough for their support.

Sincerely,

Well my story is still going and they are still here assisting me. They have been with me every step of the way since I think 2017. And I'm glad to have them on and by my side. They have helped in many ways i.e. water heater, AC air handler, dishwasher and helped me get flooring on my 2nd floor and help with trying to make my home veteran friendly or disable friendly. They are still to this day trying to help me with replacing my fence and minor repairs like my garage door and back door. I know Mr. Contugo is always a call or text away when I need some help. I'm more than blessed to have been introduced to them back in 2017 when I was going thru a dark phase in my life. They stuck it out with me and see the results of the transformation. I'm very lucky they choose to continue to assist me with projects. As a disable veteran who suffers from seizures the help they give is always greatly appreciated because I've been a single mom for about 11 yrs its now time to upkeep my home. I can only do a little at a time or what I can afford. So I'm very grateful for Adapt A Vet.

I had the greatest and much needed relaxing week y’all. Truly an event of a lifetime for me. I’ve been wanting to harvest a deer since it’s been over 20 years since my last when I left Notth Carolina and moved back to Oklahoma. I’ve been invited to go hunting by a few but the opportunity to do so just never really did allow with my life and schedule.
I was invited by my friends Mike Roxann Cotugno and Roxann Mike Cotugno with their Organization called Adapt A Vet to go with them to an outstanding Ranch called Recordbuck Ranch in Utopia, Texas. Im talking a 5 star experience with their Staff, Guides, Accommodations and the Food, OMG was amazing. We’re talking 5 star Chef prepared meals three times a day. Thank you both fir the invite and the hospitality and for opening up your home to me. I was also going to be meeting and hunting with Aaron Tippin but unfortunately he wasn’t able to make it. Maybe next time sir! Hope you get better soon. Prayers! I was also going to get to meet Vince L Moreno and his wife Holly Greenslade Moreno and Randy Carroll. It was a great time had by all and a pleasure meeting EVERYONE and hanging out. Vince Is one hell of a musician and entertainer and Randy is an awesome award winning DJ that can sing and play a guitar like non other. My Guide Kellum got me on this nice 10 point whitetail buck, referred to as a 10 point muley the way his antlers grew. Such a beautiful deer. And the experience and harvesting such a beautiful animals was such an awesome experience that I will never forget! My smile was from ear to ear and I think I smiled so much my jaw and cheek muscles hurt for awhile. Lol. I wanna thank everyone involved in making this happen for me. Janet Hammond and your husband Tom. Thank you so much. Staff at the ranch, thank you all and thank you Alicia for taking such good care of me. Thanks to my guide Kellum. And everyone else at the ranch!!!!
To my surprise, my Deer is being taxidermy for me. I’m so excited. I’ve never had a Deer mounted before, hell, I’ve never harvested anything this big and nice before. I can’t wait to get it on my wall!!!!

For years have been looking for a grass roots organization working for the good of our veterans and have found ADAPT A VETS to be that group. They are quick to see to our Vets who have been overlooked or put off by VA or other Government agencies, seeing to medical needs to housing, we need more of thier services all through the USA.
