What a great program for our area youth! There are so few athletic programs available at the elementary level. Active4youth brings students from all ability and income levels together for lifetime fitness. My own children started running in the cross country programs in elementary school. They have continued through high school. More importantly, they have found the passion for keeping their own bodies active and healthy! Keep up the great work!

Active for Youth's All-City Cross Country program allows children to have a positive experience with running. At Moran Prairie Elementary we have approximately 125 children participating and enjoying the training and races. Thank you Active for Youth for this opportunity!

Active4Youth's (A4Y) mission is to combat childhood obesity and juvenile delinquency through after school sports. Currently, A4Y puts on a youth cross country program for elementary aged students. The program is free to students attending one of the 34 elementary schools in the Spokane Public School District. Currently, over 3,000 children participate in the after school program, which includes two cross country meets where children can qualify to compete in the All City Cross Country Meet.

This program is important for our community. Of the 34 elementary schools in the Spokane School District, 27 are Title I schools, meaning that over half of their student populations receive free or reduced lunch. More than half of these 27 schools have free and reduced lunch rates at higher than 70% with one school at 93%. This tells us that families in Spokane have a hard time providing food for their kids much less signing their kids up for organized sports programs.

Active4Youth fills a much needed void by giving these kids a safe alternative afterschool where they can participate in a life-long sport while learning how to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
