As a Viet Nam era veteran, I have never experienced a more professional and sensitive nonprofit program/organization in all of my interactions with human service providers. The leadership is superb, staff knowledgeable, and they go out of their way to make visitors and clients feel welcomed and comfortable. This type of treatment is especially important to these veterans who have undergone traumatic experiences that have left hundreds of them with debilitating issues.
It is rare that you find a program, particularly for veterans, providing such comprehensive and varied services in one location. Medical services, extensive counseling, Intensive case management, alcohol drug support groups, short- and long-term housing, employment readiness, as well as personal fiscal management. Transportation is needed for outside appointments when desired. The meals provided, three times a day, by experienced cooks and dieticians, are nutritious, succulent, bountiful and savory.
Access Housing Inc DC - SE Veterans Service Center should be a model for how all nonprofits’ programs/organizations should operate. Creative and forward thinking.

Let us remember, “A ship is safe in the harbor, but that is not what ships were made for.”

Sincerely,

As a fellow veteran-service provider, I've worked closely with Access Housing to help veterans in and around Washington, DC. I've been consistently impressed with Access Housing, the extent of services they provide, and the amount of care they clearly have for each of their clients -- prompting them to go the extra mile. Access Housing is very involved in the veteran-services community, always looking to expand the resources they can offer to their clients and advocate for other veterans in similar situations. I definitely consider them one of our core partners because of the tangible help I see them give to their clients and the work they put in to create those positive experiences.
