Mission: To provide biblically based educational counseling and awareness programs and services to end domestic violence.
Programs: Her journey is a fifteen week program offered free to victims and survivors of domestic violence. Each week lessons address different issues they have or are facing. During each hour and a half weekly seesion, arms provides healing and support to help these victims and survivors make healthy decisions around their relationships. The program is lead by trained volunteers who apply and follow guidelines established by and required by arms. This year, we served over 2,500 women in 8 states and 3 countries (u. S. , mexico, kenya). This program is offered in english, spanish, and russian.
mankind is a program that brings transformation to men who have used abusive and controlling behaviors. Arms meets the state standrads for both oregon and washington. This program takes approximately one year to complete. Arms receives referrals from community corrections, department of human services and also men sent by their wife, pastors, or counselors. Arms mankind program is one of only a few faith-based programs offered nationally for men with these issues.
community awareness involves our bi-annual donation based luncheons where we reach out to the community to bring awareness to the issues of domestic violence and provide a safe place for many to begin their healing journey. We served approximately 320 people this last year at these luncheons. Community awareness also includes involvement in domestic violence vigils, speaking engagements, television appearances and trainings to churches and organizations. Arms coordinates with other domestic violence councils and agencies within the communities that arms serves.
other program services include:virtue which is a program designed for women who have experienced domestic violence but who also have used abusive behaviours. The 36 week program provides clients with both healing for the aubse they've suffered and accountability and tools to help them deal with conflicts in a non-abusive manner. This program serves the tri-county area arround portland, oregon. Most of the clients are received as referrals from community corrections officials or department of human services workers but arms also has women who voluntarily enter the program to better themselves. Foundations is an interactive program for young women ages 12-22 to provide them with the tools to recognize healthy and unhealthy relationships and behaviors. Arms has been asked by multiple county agencies to offer this program to their youth. The young mens program launched in 2014 and is designed to provide the same tools and resources to young men aged 12-22. Community impact is an outreach program designed to help educate the community about domestic violence and abuse. Arms holds three luncheons a year that provide a safe place for victims or friends and family members to begin their journey toward healing. This program also involves many trainings provided to the community, both secular and religious. Arms is an active member in the larger coordinated community response to domestic violence and is seen as experts in regards to dealing with this issue from a faith perspective.
