I haven't been volunteering for all that long, but what a great experience it has been so far. The volunteers are great and the work being done is so wonderful and gratifying.
My son has been volunteering for A Special Wish for 5 or 6 years and finally talked me into helping. I wish I had started sooner. It is refreshing to see so many young people willing to volunteer their time and an honor to give deserving children and their families a moment to smile.
As a 100% volunteer organization with minimal overhead, donations are maximized for granting special wishes. I am involved in fundraising, and I know that donations are used for wish granting at the highest level.
After my son was a recipient of A Special Wish, I was so inspired that I decided to get involved. My experience has been with the Chicago Chapter, and I have been blown away by the dedication and resourcefulness of the volunteers. They meet at various locations to review wishes that come in from hospitals, nurses, and doctors. The wishes that they grant are truly heart-warming, providing families with a moment to celebrate life and feel supported.
The chapter is an ad hoc group of volunteers who work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Today, it is chaired by Xavier Mendez, who has created a supportive environment of participation. Knowing that 100% of my donations go directly to individuals and families in need makes me feel great about contributing to this amazing cause.

So much care was taken to make sure every detail was noticed and addressed. Even things that were out of the control of ASW were remedied like flight cancellations due to weather. We honestly cannot think of a complaint from our entire experience!
I have been involved with this organization for about a year. They have great, dedicated people who care about bringing a smile to children and families who are experiencing a difficult time. All workers are 100% volunteers, with no paid staff. These are truly committed individuals working together to make a difference.
