Mission: ARTS is dedicated to healing, inspiring, and empowering youth facing life challenges by providing innovative arts-based programs, education, and employment opportunities.
Target demographics: ARTS works with children and youth ages 3-22 who are experiencing some of life’s most difficult challenges; homelessness, domestic violence, socio-economic, terminal or chronic illness, foster care, severe physical, mental, emotional and behavioral challenges, incarceration, bereavement or parents in the military. 95% are from minority, low-income families. By definition, youth experiencing any one of these challenges are deemed “at-risk” for unhealthy and adverse behaviors. Unfortunately, many of our youth experience several of these challenges at any given time, increasing their risk exponentially.
Geographic areas served: ARTS annually serves 5,000 San Diego youth ages 3-22 from more than 42 partner organizations that include hospitals, foster care agencies, residential treatment facilities, homeless and domestic violence shelters, schools and other social service agencies. ARTS also serves children in the general community who are facing their own personal struggles. These children are referred to us from doctors, therapists, counselors, and social workers.
Programs: We Heal, Inspire, and Empower our kids through various art forms and activities. The Pat D’Arrigo ARTS Center features 7,000 square feet of creative space and has been the home of ARTS since 2007. This facility allows ARTS to offer a greater range of programs and help more kids than ever before. The Pat D’Arrigo ARTS Center is home to our Music, Visual Art, Media Arts, and Dance/ Theatre Departments. It is also the location of the ARTS Gallery, staff offices, and our transportation and community outreach departments.
