Transforming Homeless Shelters with Trauma-Informed Room Makeovers: A Path to Safety, Dignity, and Hope"A Lotta Love is the only organization in North Carolina (and beyond) offering trauma-informed room makeovers for homeless shelters, crisis centers, and children’s homes, and we are proud of the profound impact we’ve had. Through our research, we’ve seen how creating safe, dignified spaces can help families heal from the trauma of homelessness. Many of the families we serve arrive in shelters carrying heavy emotional burdens—fear, anxiety, and a sense of hopelessness. By transforming these barren spaces into warm, welcoming rooms, we provide not just a place to sleep but a sense of security and worth. Please watch this video about our work and mission.
A member of A Lotta Love (ALL) for 10 years, I have seen firsthand the impact this organization has had on transforming homeless shelters across North Carolina. As a psychologist, I understood the life-changing impact that improving one's physical space could have on the psychological well-being of its residents. Through using trauma-informed design, ALL is able to do far more than just create beautiful and dignified spaces for homeless residents to live in, they are able to provide a home where people can move through and past the trauma of homelessness and experience psychological healing. I encourage you to visit their website and get involved!
I’ve been a proud supporter of A Lotta Love for several years because I truly believe in the power of what they do. With just $650, they can transform a shelter space into a comfortable, personalized, and safe haven for a family recovering from the trauma of homelessness. It’s a small investment that makes a life-changing impact—something that’s truly priceless.
