A+d's exhibition "eames words" was tremendously successful and garnered favorable and abundant press coverage as well exhibition design recognition. 2014 exhibit highlights;a+d museum enjoyed a rich and full 2014 with exhibitions and programs that were not only content strong and visually stunning but were also very collaborative in spirit and realization. Armin hofmann: farbe/color closed in january of 2014 and ultimately traveled to the miller gallery at carnegie mellon university. A+d collaborated with usc and the getty in the presentation of the thoughtful work of university students in the interstitial show, building site, that featured a usc studio and studios from college of the canyons, east los angeles college, pierce college, and santa monica college. It is intrinsic to the vision and mission of a+d museum to provide a forum for young up-and-coming talent. A unique collaboration with vs america, with the cooperation of architect dion neutra, richard neutra's son and architectural partner, produced the presentation of the neutra furniture collection. Richard neutra's early works in furniture design are now in production again by vs in germany. A+d was pleased to be the cultural venue for the launch and reintroduction of neutra's diverse and carefully crafted furniture pieces that he originally designed in california from the late 1920's into the early 1940's. The coming together of art center college of art and design, a+d museum, the eames foundation and the eames family resulted in one of the first really in depth look at the artist and designer ray eames. Hosted at art center, this was the first formal a+d museum "pop-up" show at another gallery. Ray eames: in the spotlight was a very special and inspiring exhibition. Visitors and the art center students alike were swept away into the world of ray eames. Her early drawings, cut-outs, and paintings were as enthralling and thought provoking as her mature art and design oeuvre. Summer 2014 saw another iteration of our come in! Series where a+d invites young designers to intervene in our galleries. Come in! : s, m, l, xla asked the selected designers to riff on scale taking a prompt from the rem koolhaus and bruce mau seminal text on architecture, design, cities and scale. The show was both exuberant and intellectual. Peter shire: public work, lines of desire closed out our 2014 exhibition year with extreme color and form! The iconic los angeles artist and designer, widely known for his early ceramics and whimsical furniture and sculptural pieces has also produced a significant international body of large scale architectural commissions. The opening reception was a who's who of the la design scene and the exhibition garnered significant media coverage and accolades. A+d produced in 2014 another highly attended and successful gala fundraiser. Celebrate: groundswell celebrated southern california's surf culture and the growing groundswell of museum membership and community. This year a+d museum invited the architect and design community of southern california to design and fabricate one-of-a-kind surf boards, skateboards, boogie boards etc. For a runway presentation and auction in support of a+d operating and programs. Celebrate: groundswell exceeded past annual galas in raising important operating funds for a+d museum. Every year a+d museum generates public programming that serves los angeles youth, families, and student population, as well as professionals and senior citizens. In 2014 we continued our popular arkidecture + design education workshops, urban hikes: forgotten l. A.
