Silk Screen is a wonderful organization and as a volunteer /previous Intern, I love their mission! I have learned so much about cultures unlike my own and I appreciate that Pittsburgh supports the continuation of organizations, like Silk Screen, who bring cultural understanding through the arts to our city :)

Silk Screen Arts and Cultural Organization, reaching its 9th year, has added vibrant colors to Pittsburgh cultural landscape. It has attracted curious minds, young and old, to volunteer and appreciate its programmings, such as the annual film festival, concerts and other cultural performances. The movies have taken us to remote places, inaccesible parts of cities in foreign lands, and giving us a glimpse into the intimacy of families and cultures. Through some movies, we opened our eyes to the suffering ordinary citizens like ourselves endured in some oppressive countries. The experience inevitably widened our world view, made us appreciate what we have and hightened our sense of compassion and empathy. Last year Silk Screen launched a music project, putting Asian musicians and the local Jazz musicians together to create a new sound. One of the musicians said that the collaboration has changed his outlook and his life. "Silk Sound" debut concert in February 2014 was exhilarating!
Silk Screen Arts and Cultural Organization is defintely a jewel for our city, an organization worth your support, which is essential for New Pittsburgh!

It is with pleasure that I applaud the Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival. The appreciation I see of diverse cultures is heart warming. The increased understanding and awareness of the talents and rich heritage represented helps to enrich our community.

One of the best ways for people to see another culture is through the eyes of the artist's. You see that the human condition is universal,we all struggle to make a good world for our families and those around us. These ideals are presented in the films and music and dance of each culture. By an appreciation of these forms of art an appreciation of these cultures is also fostered.

I have had the privlidge to be a former board member of the Silk Screen organization and I can attest to these values .

I wish continued success in the future.

Silk Screen is helping to make the local community a great place for people in the region to access art and culture without having to go to New York City, DC, or Toronto. Its events are easily accessible, give the community some insight into global issues, and teach Asian culture. Pittsburgh has had a long tradition of cultural events connected with Europe, and it's only proper to maintain that tradition by expanding into the rest of the world. It can also make Pittsburgh a more interesting destination for tourists to our region.

Silk Screen's dedication to bringing foreign films to our area has created a film festival event that rivals those in major US cities.

Their mission to celebrate diversity and demonstrate the commonalities all of us share through the artworks they present is a noble one and one that I am happy to continue to support with my time, efforts & funds.

If you're able, please make a contribution to this cause.

I am involved with investing in start up technology companies which are often founded by immigrants such a students from CMU & Pitt. I have found that Pittsburgh offers these founders many professional and personal opportunities but previously lacked cultural activities to help maintain ties to their homeland and just feel more at home many the transition to a new country.

Silk Screen provides year around programming from many countries including movies, dance, and music to name a few. The feedback from the technology community has been overwhelming and thus we have expenaded our programming.
