Educational outreach programs continued to flourish including educaitonal tours, workshops and art education curriculum for teachers. Exhibits and programming reached a total direct audience of close to 11,000 individuals and an indirect audience of over 100,000 who participated in social media or were exposed to murals, radio and tv interviews and media covereage of 516 arts. Our 2016 audience mirrored the unique ethnic, socio-economic and cultural mix of new mexico and we actively reached out to these populations through varied program themes, partnerships with arts and community organizations, targeted marketing, free admission and outreach programs around each exhibition.
the fulcrum fund aims to foster the development and presentation of artist-led projects and programs that are open and accessible to the public. In accordance with the mission of 516 arts to forge connections between art and audiences, the fulcrum fund seeks to support artists and projects that generate meaningful shared experiences that are created in a collaborative spirit. These awards serve as springboards for artistic processes that are adventurous, experimental and forward thinking, while celebrating projects that do not fit into the traditional museum and gallery systems.
I have had the privilege of serving on the board of directors for 516 ARTS for several years and can attest to the large impact that this small arts organization has on our community. Each year, this dedicated staff brings interesting and engaging exhibitions and educational programs to Albuquerque that focus on important issues of our day. They have spearheaded meaningful partnerships and collaborations throughout the state and region and have provided direct support to local artists through an innovative national re-granting program. I encourage everyone to visit 516 ARTS and to consider supporting it.
