I can't even begin to thank 1Boy4Change for all the encouragement he brings to myself and others. First of all, I'm amazed that he does this completely by himself. I know it takes a lot of time and dedication, especially for someone who also has chronic illnesses. When I applied for my warrior beads, I was having a tough time coming to terms with the many diagnosis's I had recently received. What Chris does makes it very obvious that I'm not alone in my battle. Each color or type of bead represents something different in my medical journey. I was astonished when I received them and saw just how many there were. I now hang them on my IV pole when I do my infusions. It reminds me just how far I've come and just how strong I am. I now keep count of things so I can apply for more beads in the future. None of this would be possible without donations and the generosity of others! Thanks again, my warrior beads are the best!
Chris goes above and beyond to help others when they need a lift. He puts others first and does it with pride and a smile. No one has more drive to help others, and I am blessed to say that he is my friend and will be forever warrior strong♡
Chris has inspired me to be a better person. Not to many people can cross your path and make a lasting impression on one's life. He has taught me to believe, be caring, to take a step back and see others as they should be seen. Some people want to meet celebrities of some sort in their life time. I just want to meet chris. He gives and gives, always willing to take that extra step, and always with a smile. He will always be that special person in my life, as he is to so many others.
Chris is an exceptional young man. I first met him when he was around 12. I was a volunteer with Puppies In Flight and transported a Service puppy he donated. He has a huge heart and is an inspiration.
I don't believe I can say enough good about this young man and his organization....his selflessness in the face of his own adversity is overcoming....His Warrior Bead program is truly unique.......imagine rewarding someone for doing such ordinary things ...as in the case of my g-daughter just getting up in the morning.....she was being bullied beyond belief in school...Chris sent her a note and a HERO key chain comprised of Warrior Beads....she still uses it as a reminder that she IS someone ....it's very difficult for children...grownups too ....when your disability can't be seen.....life is full of choices and Chris has made some very good choices...I am happy to call him my friend and happy to help him in any way I can...all his supplies for this program come from donations ...hundreds of people benefit from his Warrior Beads...It's a wonderful program ...and what is the saying...And a child shall lead them....
Thank You 1Boy4Change for all the love and support of my 2 grandchildren...one with Chiari and the other with Bullying issues...your Warrior beads were the spark that gave them hope. She carries her house key on her key chain. He has not strung his beads but looks at them often and knows that someone else with a chronic illness shares his pain. It is difficult to be a teenager but a teen in pain is more so. As a grandparent who loves them both I Thank You from the bottom of my heart Chris.
There isn't a better non profit around. Great program! My nephew is a proud warrior, and the organizer, Chris, has been absolutely phenomenal in his support for this group! Highly recommended.
I found this nonprofit through Facebook, and I discovered a young man who is doing a lot for others, not only kids with illnesses but also K9. It has a beautiful cause that gives hope and companionship to many children who spend time in hospitals and doctor's offices. It gives them strength to continue, and is generating a change not only in these guys, but in those of us who follow them in social networks. I'm sure his parents are very proud of him.
I was able to get my beads and love them so much!!! I’ve had so much happen in my life I only did the past year and would love to continue to add on every year!
1Boy4Change, has changed they way I look at how sick children are viewed. Christopher makes their stay in the hospital more tolerable. By giving them the beads and other things he sends them he gives them something to hope for
Also he is a very big supporter of the local K( units by making sure that they have heat alarms and 1st aid kits.

I feel that 1Boy4Change, is awesome. I truly believe that this young man truly loves his work. He provides K-9 units and handlers with equipment to do their job safely.
He provides young people with a distraction during their illness with his Warrior Bead program. He is a example of what young people should be.
The entire world could learn alot grom Chris. Not only does he work with different Sheriffs departments he does his own charity
I have participated as a volunteer at 1Boy4Change since the beginning. I have watched it grow and change. I have witnessed the programs bless the lives of so many participants. I am so proud to be a part of the 1Boy4Change organization.
I have seen this young man in action for almost 6 years now. He gives his heart to the programs of 1Boy4Change. He is dedicated and professional well beyond his years! A very good organization to get behind and support!
Keep up the great work!
amazing organization! We love the beads show is how far we’ve come and what we’ve over some. My daughter likes looking at her beads and though we wish we weren’t on this journey, the beads help give a little light.
The beads make me feel like a warrior. I have so many and I'm still here, like.. Look how far I've come in life and I'm still smiling. He's doing an amazing thing for people with illnesses and disabilities. I love this!
Chris is an amazing young man at 1boy4change. He creates warrior beads for ill people all over the world . Chris also participates in securing vests for k9 dogs. Heat monitors for police cars with k9 's. First aid kits for police cars. He is very unselfish and even though he's not well himself he always is thinking of others and how to make others lives better
Hello My Name is Norma Jean Grass and I live in the great state of Maine...I met Chris Carswell thru facebook a few years ago and seeing what he did and has gone thru in his short life time just made me to want to help him any way that I could..I support all the good things he is doing with the Warrior Bead Program what he does with the Dog Programs he has been in and not with the Program he is in with horses...He is 1 awesome young man making a huge difference in this world today...May God Bless him in what ever comes his way for he never turns down a challange...
I've been following Chris Carswell and 1Boy4Change for several years now. He was a child of 13 or 14 when I came to know of him through SD Bronx and his warrior beads program. I have never met a teenager with so much love and care in his heart for others. Chris puts his own pain and suffering to the side for the benefit of children who are ill, and his K9 protection program. He brings joy to both young children and adults. Chris Carswell is truly a young hero who will do great things in the future.
I met Chris at an equestrian event and was immediately impressed with his commitment to overcoming his disabilities to help others. His story is amazing and so is he! I would encourage everyone to help him reach his goals.
I have followed this young man's story over the last several years. He continues to amaze and inspire me. His courage and dignity in the face of constant challenges, both medical and personal is a testimony to the power of faith. In spite of the obstacles his courage never seems to falter and his compassion for others shines brightest in hard times. Chris works tirelessly through his nonprofit activities to improve and enhance the lives of others. Even now, in the midst of a terrible personal tragedy he continues to focus on what he can do for others. His energy and creativity keep him on the path to changing our world for the better.
Chris is an awesome young man even when he is not feeling well due to various illnesses himself he still gives. Chris is not a quiter he just keeps going & giving asking nothing in return if anyone deserves to keep their nonprofit it is him; he works tiredlessly on his projects always giving & giving I love this young man with all my heart.
Oh my goodness where to begin. Chris Carswell & 1Boy4Change is a nonprofit that does awesome work for children,K9's, & the thin blue line. He gives & gives & asks nothing in return even though he has many health issues that he deals with on a day to day basis. I have the honor of knowing him personally which makes me feel blessed. Go to his 1Boy4Change & read of all the fabulous things he does you won't be sorry!
An incredible charity run by an amazing young man. The warrior bead program enables people battling their own medical conditions to tell their story. Each bead represents courage and strength. They mean so much to the people who receive them.
1Boy4Change means so much to me and my son. My boy has been through so much in his life and it really helps him understand and document how brace he has been.
1Boy4Change has amazing communication and are always efficient. Thank you
Chris nonprofit, 1 Boy 4 Change, helped me train and test my Service Dog. My Service Dog alerts me to low blood sugar. I am a diabetic, on insulin for 46 years, and can no longer tell if I am high or low. This is called hyperinsensitivity. SD Jade is very visible in our community and recently had her picture in the paper.
After being ill for a little while and then diagnosed with Loeys-Dietz Syndrome type 1 I find that 1Boy4Change and his bead program helped me get thru a few rough times by showing me what a true warrior I am. Although I will never be healthy and have to constantly go in for tests, labs and most recently open heart surgery; Chris, you have made a change in my life while I cover some ground!
Thank you 1boy4change to help me thru my journey with Loeyz-Dietz Syndrome. You have given me something tangible to look back on to see my accomplishment and something to look forward to each time I overtake a battle. Those beads mean more to me more than you'll ever know!
I have been following this page for a few years & I have to say I think he does an amazing job!
I wish more kids would do good in this world.
Keep it up though! You're doing amazing.
A wonderful young man is responsible for starting 1boy4chang. Even though he has had to deal with many health issues including multiple brain surgeries he lives his life in service to others. His warrior beads program helps others chart their own medical journey
1Boy4change is a great example of what the youth of today can do just by doing something. The young man who started 1Boy4Change did just that. He helps raise funds for police K9 teams so that they will have special first aid kits and heat alarms for their cars. Chris lives a life of service to others all the while battleing his many health issues. His latest idea to help children with health issues is his worrier beads progam. He is an amazing young man who is changing the world one good dead at a time
Warrior beads have been amazing, they put a positive spin on something that's usually so negative. By receiving beads to keep track of my journey and what I've been through it I've realized how far ive come. Knowing that I'll get something like a cool bead makes some of the not-so-fun stuff tolerable.
This is an incredible organization that I am always glad to help! Chris is tireless in his efforts, he's focused on what's important, and has no doubt changed the lives of many. His selfless acts always get my attention, and every time I see one of the 1Boy4Change posts, it makes my heart happy!
It doesn't take long to look through 1Boy4Change's site to know that he and his mother are selfless, genuine people. Without hesitation or reservation I was glad to help the many causes that this organization supports. Although his main focus is protecting police K9s and helping those in need of service dogs, Chris never seems to back away from a challenge. When NJ asked for help, Chris stepped in and said YES! He never sees obstacles, only results. I have a lot of respect for this child and his mother. They work harder in a week than many people do in their lifetimes. He is truly an inspiration and for all his efforts he asks for so little in return. I have never met Chris but his works and words speak volumes for his character. I believe he has one of the biggest hearts out there and want to see him continue to exceed by helping others. That's what he wants and that's what he should get!
Chris is an amazing young man that has made my son feel more accepted through the Warrior Beads program. My son, Michael now goes to have medical procedures done, holds his beads tight and tells the nurses what each bead stands for, by the time he is done explaining the procedure is over. No more crying, yelling and begging "no". Thank you!
Thank you SO much to 1Boy4Change for sponsoring K9 first aid kits from We Ride to Provide for all four of the K9's in my husband's division! The LCPD K9's
1Boy4Change is a wonderful charity, run by a young man who believes in honesty and integrity. He supports our law enforcement community particularly K9s by raising funds to obtain heat alarms for the cruiser so that a K9 is not going to suffer from excessive heat. Working with We Ride To Provide he assists K9 teams in obtaining first aid kits. Chris also supports our military by sending 'care' packages. Despite having medical conditions and an up hill fight he still thinks of others and their needs and concerns. Helping this young man to succeed is a worthwhile investment of your time and any donation you can make.
My husband and I have been donating to 1Boy4Change for quite awhile. We know every dollar we donate will be spent very wisely. Chris is an amazing young man and does so much good for others. He purchases heat alarms and first aid kits for the handlers of Police K9s. He also gives out Warrior Beads to sick kids and adults to help them keep track of everything that they've been through. We are honored to donate to such a worthy charity.
I've donated to this charity & have to say Chris is a wonderful young man doing great things.
We own the local DQ at exit 29. We had an opportunity to meet Christopher and his wonderful mom. They have so much heart and devotion. We're gonna do all we can to help them continue their mission and hope all of you will, too.
1 Boy4Change is directly responsible for my daughter getting her service dog. This is a life changing gift. In the month she has had the dog, my daughter is happier, more active and in less pain than I have seen in years. The professionalism, integrity and intuition that are cornerstones to Chris's work are only out weighed by his tremendous heart. I owl urge everyone to get in solved, donate, volunteer and spread the word. Chris is making miracles happen for people on a regular basis. This world needs a lot more of that!
Impressive from start to finish. I was aware of 1Boy4Change & his warrior beads long before becoming acquainted with the people behind the beads. Having several health challenges of my own, I saw people from all over the country (via social media support groups) excited to receive their beads. A patients journey is long, isolating and filled with procedures the healthy world has never even heard of. The beads represent our battle, not a count of the pain endured, but of the battles won, one procedure at a time, with different colors beads representing various tests/ procedures. It's a score card that shows us we have been through hell & back, and we are still fighting; a reminder that we have come so far and today is not the day to give up. Such a simple idea, such a meaningful impact made more special by the fact your package of color specific beads are put together by a young man who is legally blind. When most adults would give up, this young man& his mom are giving back in a meaningful way. Your donations go exactly where they say it will.... I'd encourage everyone to give to this effort. As a professional grant maker, I wish I saw more non profits doing so much with this level of integrity.
The warrior beads program is amazing! Having a collection of beads to tell and record my personalised medical story has given me confidence to talk about my medical experience. It helps those around you understand what happens when I go into hospital and most importantly, warrior beads are there to remind me that I can do anything, because I have done so much already. Now whenever I lie in an MRI, have an operation, medical infusion, IV, or treatment, I think about my warrior beads. They automatically calm me down and give me courage.
I am super grateful for everything Chris and his charity have done for me. Thank you :)
1boy4change changed my daughter's life by giving her Service dog. This dog is amazing, he detects every seizure with out fail. Her service dog has allowed my daughter to be independent and she has a companion and friend for as long as her Service dog can do it. Thank you 1boy4change. Our Family has earned a special friendship and a place in our hearts with Chris, Janet Carswell and Bronx.
It is truly an empowering honor to have Chris and Janet on our families side. My daughter's life and ours is going to change in the most positive way. Am so grateful to have gotten the opportunity have met such a brave and courageous young man, however I know he draws his strength from his lovely mother. Thank you for been you and for been now a part of my family.
Chris at 1boy4change is a wonderful young man that has helped my family and son so much. He has helped to supply my son with a much needed service dog and now he sends warrior beads to my son. These beads may not seem like much to others but to a special needs child they mean so much! Thank you Chris!
I am a mom. Just like every mom, I want what's best for my children. My middle son has spinal muscular atrophy. He is wheelchair bound, and has an amazing personality. 1boy4change is helping my son by giving him a service dog. My son will now enjoys the benefits of feeling a little bit of this freedom that many of us take for granted. SD Abby is going to open many wonderful doors (both physically and emotionally) for my son. I just can't thank Chris and his mom Janet enough. They are giving my baby hope fit his future.
Chris is doing a great job with his bead project, where he gives beads to children who have serious illnesses for every procedure they have done. what a great idea. I know of one of the children who has personally benefited from this free service. For a young man who has had to fight illness all his life he is doing a great service for others what a fine example he is setting for others. May god Bless him as well as his mother who helps him so very much .
My son was involved in an accident in February and once he got home from his hospital stay I looked into the 1Boy4Change Warrior Bead program. My son's life has changed drastically from that accident and with the beads from Chris he is able to tell his medical journey. Adding new beads to his string is not only therapeutic for him but also feels like a sense of closure for those procedures. I would have never thought that a simple program like this could make such a huge difference to children during their medical journeys.
1Boy4Change is a great nonprofit that has helped and continues to help so many people including children and adults as well as the military and those that serve including K-9's . I cannot begin to say how impressed I was when I read about 1Boy4Change. One thing I check out with nonprofits is where the money goes, just know when you donate to 1Boy4Change your donation will help many and be wisely spent.
Great charity. Amazing work done. Chris is a great person who truly has made a difference in this world.
Chis is a wonderful young man who volunteers his time to others in need. His causes are near and dear to my heart. His love and concern for very ill children and K9s who need First Aid kits shows his caring nature. Chris, SD BRONX and Janet are loved by many for their tireless volunteer work. I will support them always.
Such an amazing charity! My son received warrior beads from 1boy4change to tell his medical story with. As a mom it was a little somber but it also showed me everything we have overcome with our little guy so far. We cannot thank them enough. My son is proud to show off his warrior beads and tell his story:)
1boy4change is absolutely amazing - thinking of others before himself and truly making a change one person at a time. Rest assured that any donation goes exactly where it is intended.
I have personally had officers in our area receive the K9 alarms which they would have had no other way to receive them without 1boy4change. I have donated and seen the impact it has.
Thank you to Chris Carswell and his entire team.....will continue to follow and be a donor for many years to come.
Chris is such an amazing and inspiring young man. Despite all of the health issues he has to battle, he still wants to help others out with his amazing bead program, K-9 First Aid kits, and K-9 Heat Alarms. I have supported his endeavors in the past and will continue to do so.
My name is Nancy and I volunteer at 1Boy4Change counting and packaging Warrior Beads. I love the Warrior Bead program and how it impacts so many lives! I have watched the program go into an International program - it amazes my that this magic all began with the program designed by a 16 year old! 1Boy4Change is magical and I am so glad to volunteer there!
I have come to know of Chris when I come across Chris and his SD Bronx as nominees in The Hero Dog Awards. The generosity, compassion and true caring exhibited by this amazing young man, despite his own health issues, left an impression upon me that makes me sit back in awe of his continuing dedication to make a difference to the lives of others. His foundation, 1Boy4Change, Inc. is based on Chris' ethos.....making a change to better the lives of others. He works tirelessly and with true and genuine dedication to the causes he sets his mind to. He is an outstanding example of setting goals and working with everything that he has to achieve a positive outcome. He is a truly inspirational young man who has had a wonderful and positive effect on the lives of so many so far and looks at continuing that positive effect on the lives of many others in the future....
Chris Carswell has been an inspiration to me for many years now. I am so proud of the many goals he has reached to make the lives of others better. When Chris sets his sites on helping others, there simply is no mountain this young man cannot move to make miracles happen.
It's such an honor to have Chris, his family, friends, foundation, and SUPER hero SD Bronx in my life. The world is a better place because Chris shares his passion for helping others with all of us.
I met Chris, his mom, and his service dog last year at a charity event. Chris is a stellar example of doing kind deeds for others and paying it forward. I am excited to witness his journey into adulthood and see all he has yet to accomplish!
I recently met Chris Carswell in person after having worked with his foundation for about a year. I run a foundation that provides grants to the disabled in our community who need service dogs. Chris and his foundation reviewed our grantee's application and selected a specific dog to be trained for her.
Chris provided the early training for this dog, before was moved on to get his advanced training in Tennessee. All through this process, Chris and his foundation provided the communication, reassurance and information we needed to prepare our client for their new dog.
The end result of this labor of love on Chris' part is the most amazing partnership between a highly trained service dog, and a 7 year old girl with severe disabilities.
I credit Christopher for his dedication to this work, and for his work helping Police K-9 units across the country. What an amazing young man, to have had this idea at such a young age, and to spend his teen years serving others.
He is truly a remarkable young man. His foundation is well-run, and clearly he goes out of his way to make sure that the projects he supports are successful. He, his mother and the trainer from Tennessee gave up an entire week of their summer to come to our community and train our client with their new service dog. I don't know of another organization in this area of service that does this for their clients. I know that hundreds of hours of training were donated toward the preparation of this wonderful dog.
We had a million questions. Every single one of them was answered politely and with patience, understanding that this was all new to us. Chris's team is highly skilled and highly qualified to be doing this work, and I consider them experts in the field.
Chris knows firsthand the difference that a trained service dog can make in a person's life, and he appears to be truly dedicated to making it possible for others to have the same benefit.
Wonderful young man, and a great example of what a great non-profit should be!
I met Chris and SD Bronx when they took the time out of their day visiting Miss Sue at Golden Isles Hospice to visit my husband who did not have many days left. My husband, Wilfried Stein, could no longer talk; however, I saw the light in his eyes when I told him a real Deutsche Shepard was coming in to see him. Wilfried was from Austria and SD Bronx got in the bed with him. Wilfried was delighted and swished SD Bronx's tail back and forth. My most known words in Deutsche are commands for dogs from listening to Wilfried speak to our dogs in Deutsche. Chris took the time to pose with Wilfried and SD Bronx. Chris is a selfless young man who puts his needs last and cares for others first!!
I heard of and about Chris through a mutual friend (Peg H.). In June 2013, slightly before midnight, I received a phone call from Peg. Against Pegs suggestion, I accepted and acknowledged that I would submit an application to 1B4C to become a Volunteer Trainer, and did so that moment. To my surprise, I was accepted as an Evaluator/Trainer. I can tell you countless experiences witnessed, but that would violate the privacy of the "family" members 1B4C extends its heart to. But, you can look at any photo from any delivery and its evident....intimate...compassion...pride...family.
After learning about 1Boy4Change over a year ago, I've watched this organization continuously increase their outreach program for those needing service dogs. It's an incredibly difficult task to provide resources for service dogs and matching them with the right recipients. A tireless group, even faced with obstacles. Nothing is slowing them down from helping others.
1boy4change is an amazing organization. Chris Carswell is the most giving person I have ever met. He has many challenges of his own, but is always looking to help someone else.
In Jan 2013 we learned about 1Boy4Change and we were immediately impressed. Janet & Chrus were supportive in us obtaining and training our puppy. Just this week we were tested and our dog, Zoey officially became a service dog. Throughout the entire process, you never feel alone or excluded. The entire 1Boy4Change organization has done nothing but amazing things. From guidance with your service dog's training to support with more personal issues. They are a non-profit organization that makes dreams come true!
I literally stumbled onto 1Boy4Change. Chris has changed our lives and given us hope. They gave us support when we got our puppy. They arranged for training here in Canada when I needed it most. They are available no matter the day or night...
1B4C paired me with my service dog in training Phoenix in May 2013. Nearly a year later we are very close to becoming a fully graduated service dog team. They have been there to support me through the whole training process and our trainer from FL even came up in November to check on us. We will be going to her to finish our training in June and I could not be more excited. SDiT Phoenix has been a blessing I never could have imagined having. Chris, Janet, and their team made that possible. I am forever grateful.
1Boy4Change actually found me and I am so glad they did! I was trying to raise $10,000 for a PTSD service dog from a different organization...something that was not going to happen anytime soon! I applied and was approved on the very day my application arrived. Since then Janet and Chris have always been available to respond to my questions. This is such a unique organization, not many places give you the opportunity to puppy raise your own service dog and interact with others who are on their waiting list. 1Boy4Change doesn't just accept you for a service dog, they adopt you into a FAMILY. Chris Carswell is a hero in my book, without his drive to help others I would not be getting the service dog I so desperately need to live a normal life. THANK YOU 1Boy4Change!
We have had our Service Dog from 1Boy4Change.org for almost 2 yrs now. They have been the most wonderful nonprofit to interact with. They still help us with any equiptment we may need, any advice we need and a listening ear when I need it! A wonderful family oriented organization that has changed our lives and helped to make my non-verbal autistic son safe and more independent!
It has almost been a year since i met Chris and he brought my son his service dog! What a wonderful year it has been... We can safely go to stores with out losing my son, he can go in the yard and his Service Dog is always on watch... When our dog had a medical issue 1boy4change stepped right up and helped us out, they are wonderful and their organization is Life changing!!!!
1b4c is one of the most amazing orgainiztions we have ever dealt with. my husband and i were in the process of trying to raise $13,000 for a service dog for our disabled 5 year old son. when 1b4c found out they were able to get us a dog for only $1,000 and that was covered by a grant. They haven't just helped our son but they have become a part of our family! not to mention what they do for police k9 teams with their heat alarms and providing non verbal children with ipads so they can communicate. Chris and Janet go above and beyond just being a non profit. they truly care about each of the people they help.
my son and his service dog are a perfect match and it is all because of 1b4c!
they have also helped every family i have ever asked them to consider helping.
Chris and 1boy4change are the most amazing people. They have supplied my 5 year old son eith a multipurpose service dog. Because of them when our service dog if fully trained I eill be able to sleep better knowing that the dog will tell me if my son is in danger. Tonight was a perfect example of how she eill keep himnsafe in a public area. He took off amd was headed towards the road. 1boy4change has given our family oeace of mind. Comfort and a New extended family. I could never say enough kind words for them.
1Boy4Change is simply amazing, after applying to numerous other organizations like this and being denied they took us in and I'll never forget the words they said to me," it's ok, we are here for you" because of them my special needs son had a friend and not just that but a life line in his service dog ally. I will always and forever be in their debt for the joy they have brought to my family and for the hope in myself that they have renewed.
Our family has had the best working relationship with 1 Boy 4 Change. Anytime we had questions or needed help with Balto our son's Service Dog they stepped in ASAP to help. They did an amazing job training Balto and continuing to keep in touch with our family after his graduation from their program. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great honest non-profit.
This boy, no man, does for so many when one would only do for himself. I am a disabled Vet w/ PTSD and he is doing everything in his power to get me PTSD trained service dog. Unlike most training I can not be present for most of the training due to the severity of my Illness, but that has not stopped him and will soon have my dog and help me again gain my freedom.
In 1998 I was diagnosed with PTSD for my time in Bosnia. I was medically released from the service in 99. I was a mess for several years, even spending time in the hospital from my PTSD. After the hospital stay things were looking better, for I had learned had to cope with the symptoms of my disorder. This held well till Oct of last year when a stressor broke me. A three story flood had happened destroying my upstairs bathroom, through my kitchen, and into the basement where it went down the drain.
Now I had always looked over my shoulder everywhere I went, kept my back to walls and sat in corner booths at restaurants, but something was different now. I couldn’t seem to handle being anywhere for too long without having an anxiety attack. I basically started to become a shut in and stayed away from everything. Trips to stores were terrible, I hurry up so fat that I forget half of the things I would go in for and would have to send my wife back out because I couldn’t handle the anxiety. I also began missing important thing like my daughter’s soccer games and the games I did go; I was a nervous wreck when I got home.
I explained all of this one day to my other dog’s groomer and she suggested 1Boy4Change. I asked what they did and she answered with, “They help by providing those in need a service dog that is or will be trained to aid you.” Now I had heard of other disabled Veterans getting service dogs and how they changed their life and figured, I had nothing else to lose and gave Chris, 1Boy4Change a Facebook a message. Within that very day I received a group invite and message asking me a series of basic questions. Type of dog I am looking for, short or long fur, etc... I answered them all and before I knew it I was paired up to a white German shep, soon to be in training. This wasn’t to be, because the owner sold the dog, which Chris begged forgiveness for, I am an understanding person and reassured him that everything was fine, but the very same day he had another dog for me and on top of that it was already trained for PTSD.
The next week I drove down and picked up my SD and received some basic training on how to handle the dog. I would of stayed longer, but my anxiety was fried and I was having a lot of attacks, none there, save upon entering their home. I also had a long trip to make back home to do as well. When I got home, things started out fine, but quick became a problem. There seem to be issues that my SD had that were causing problems with me. This was taken care of quickly when my SD had to go back for retraining or Boot Camp as it is called and I can’t wait to get her back her in early May.
Chris is a wonderful young man and has done a lot of good in this cruel world. Even the short time I had my SD, it changed me for the better. He handles things professionally and is willing to help in any aspect that he can. I hope this young man has many years of happiness and is able to help many more people in need.
Dealing with multiple debilitating illnesses makes life extremely difficult for my 13 yr old daughter. Her greatest wish over the past few years was to have her very own service dog -- in order to make her life more livable. After being turned down a few times by different organizations, and then not knowing how on earth I'd be able to fulfill her dream of getting a service dog all on our own, along came 1Boy4Change. During one of the happiest moments of her life thus far -- my daughter found out she was accepted to receive her own service dog from this organization. Not only does the name 1Boy4Change stand for what Chris wants to accomplish -- it stands for what HE IS ACCOMPLISHING.
