Want to join me in supporting a good cause? I'm raising money for The Childrens Hour Inc and your contribution can make an important impact. We have a generous donor who will match the first $20,000 we raise by November 18, 2019. Whether you donate $5 or $500, every little bit helps. I’ve included information about The Childrens Hour Inc below.
We produce 52 public radio programs for and with kids each year, and include children in all aspects of the production. We train kids on our crew in broadcasting skills from field recording to live engineering, hosting, interviewing, public speaking and more. The Children's Hour is now nationally syndicated and the voices of New Mexican children are reaching kids across the country. The show tackles topics that aren't covered fully (or at all) in New Mexico schools, with four focus areas: civics, STEAM, culture, and performance. You'll hear kids on stage performing, sharing their expertise, or interviewing elected officials and cultural educators. The show has a volunteer pool of over 30 children. Plus, the program partners with teachers in local Title 1 designated schools (high poverty) to build theme based radio shows from inside classrooms across New Mexico. The program hosts dozens of live public broadcasts from venues like libraries, museums, cultural centers, laboratories, parks and more. The goal is to reach kids where they are at and provide family friendly, educational entertainment, then bring that to a national audience through syndication and podcasts. An institution on KUNM-fm Saturday mornings at 9am, The Children's Hour can now be heard nationwide or on our podcasts. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has called The Children's Hour "an icon of New Mexico programming invaluable to the communities" we serve.
