Eileen and her whole team is such a blessing. I am incredibly thankful to have been able to receive extra help. They never let you feel bad/sorry for the help they offer. the experience of being at hope-tree t.g.h Is worth it trust me when I say the people that you're surrounded by during the journey help you get to the other side they like to see you discharge successfully and the have true empathy for how residents feel and not only do resident feel cared for but anyone that comes across the staff and leadership that help us but even us residents get a chance to shed some light into the world of hope-tree we as residents are given a voice and power to do what's right while teaching us the life lessons needed in the long run that will last a lifetime. in life you don't often see that much good being put into the universe but here at hope-tree it's what they do and they strive for each and everyone of us to be successful and to have integrity. It's unexplainable what happens at this campus It's beyond magnificent the effort put into us residents day in and day out they show up no matter and without a doubt they'd do it anyways for us.

My name is Nakia and I am the Director of Adoptions as Every Last One rescue based in NYC. Over the last year, we've have saved a handful of deaf dogs and deaf dogs Rock has been such a blessing to our community. Through their site, we have been able to find animal lovers with a history and a deep interest in serving the special pups that are looking for their forever homes. DDR is such a valued resource and we truly thank them for all they do!

Barn Cat Buddies is an awesome rescue. They have rescued at least 14 cats for me. They do everything they can to trap neuter and find forever homes. I can't praise them enough. I thank them every day for all they do. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

TFH is a retirement program for horses that are no longer able to compete at the racetrack due to lack of ability or drop in performance or any reason, really. The owners donate them to the track-based aftercare program for rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming to the best match for them. There are Partner Farms accredited by the program all up and down the East Coast, who accept these horses and rehome them or give them all the time they need to be rehomed. The adoption fees of the more desireable horses balance the extended care of the ones who need a little longer prior to adoption, but each horse is given every chance to find their best second life. Livengrin saved my life 14 years ago. Their passion and commitment to helping all those who suffer from this disease is admirable. The staff is dedicated to the needs of their clients and strive to assist clients on navigating the recovery road. They live their mission statement each and every day.

This nonprofit hits very near and dear to me. Brian was an exceptional young man that has physically left us way too soon. He has touched so many in his young life and his heart and soul will live on through each and everyone of us. Now, we need to educate others about melanoma and this fund will do just that! Wonderful little shelter with a big heart. All the dogs and cats are well taken care of and loved. They are a no- kill facility and offer reduced fee spay/neuter for dogs and cats. All animals receive vaccines, wormer, flea treatment and are spayed or neutered.

I'm sorry to say, but there are some serious problems with the International Church of Christ Churches, of which Roanoke Valley is listed as a member of this church. Get ready for brainwashing -- err, indoctrination -- if you want to join the International Church of Criticism -- err, I meant International Church of Christ (ICOC). With all seriousness, there are some serious issues with this "non-denomination". Here they are: <br>1) While the ICOC does teach the Bible, they have some peculiar, or false interpretations of scripture mixed in. Are all the teachings false? No. But there is enough false or extra-Biblical teachings mixed in that is a problem. <br>2) They claim that only those who go to the ICOC are saved, and if you go to any other denomination you are going to Hell. <br>3) They deny the gifts and works of the Holy Spirit. The discipling ministry is a substitute for the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Instead of letting the Holy Spirit guide and convict, disciplers point out the faults of other members (according to their opinion) and beat them over the head with Bible verses. Yes -- of course it's always easier to see someone else's faults and not your own! It works every time. <br>4) They hold the position that to be saved, you must repent of EVERY sin before you are baptized. There is no understanding of SANCTIFICATION and GRACE, a working of the Holy Spirit to purify believers as they walk with God. After you repent of EVERY sin, only then can you be baptized. And if OOPS! you sin again, then your salvation is at doubt. I became aware that members were being baptized several times because they doubted their salvation. What kind of fruit is this? <br>5) They do not believe people pray in tongues, and demonize Christians in other denominations that do. They have actually taught when other Christians (not belonging to ICOC) pray in tongues, it is of the devil. Ummm -- isn't this dangerously close to blaspheming the Holy Spirit? <br>6) If you don't conform to THEIR narrow (and often wrong) view of Scripture, they kick you out of the church. Now this can actually be a blessing to some. BUT, they have so thoroughly brainwashed some of these poor souls, that many either completely turn away from God, or commit suicide after this treatment. The defining word here is "spiritual abuse". When you examine the results (fruit) of this ministry, this is a serious casualty. The other problem with this view, is that the leaders have placed themselves between the parishioners and God -- this is a practice the Lord detests. We are all sinners, and Jesus died for our sins and offered us all access to the throne when we come to Him as we are! Jesus cleans us up! It's a continual process, and the Holy Spirit should convict us -- not a leader beating us over the head with the Bible and cherry-picked verses. <br>7) They deny the GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. Ever heard of Christians praying and laying hands on one another for healing? According to the ICOC, the gift of healing died with the apostles. That is not true! God still heals miraculously today -- broken bones, deaf ears, blindness, lame, etc.! Youtube is full of documentaries like this! And God heals animals too! Check out Andrew Wommack's website, or The Last Reformation. These Christians pray in tongues too! Wooooah! It's a lot more fun and uplifting to pray for others and see them healed, vs. getting judged and hit over the head with a Bible from the ICOC. <br>8) The International Church of Christ is so legalistic, they essentially deny both the grace and unconditional love of Jesus Christ. <br> <br>If you proceed anyways, you've been warned! If you read your Bible (King James is more accurate), it does NOT say that only members of the International Church of Christ go to heaven. This position is preposterous -- logically it would mean that the millions or billions of people since the church of Acts until the establishment of the ICOC all went to Hell. This (ICOC) is another kind of gospel that portrays God and Jesus to be jerks, when they are not! The Lord has GREAT mercy! <br>

As an Army wife and Family Readiness Group Leader I have worked in conjunction with the Military Family Support Center for the past two and a half years. They have always exceeded my expectations. Helping plan and organize military family days, helping secure speakers, and donating food and toys for our events. They have also helped people within my unit and others in financial hardships. The staff has always been friendly and professional so when I had the opportunity to begin volunteering here I was very eager to help! I have been working here for three months now and I love the work that we do for our local military and their families. I have had a great time supporting such events as our Baseball Military Appreciation Nights with the local ball parks as well as different fundraisers for local units and community events.

This place is a hidden gem in many ways. Preserving not only buildings but a way of life that existed 150 to 200 years ago. This dedicated group of altruistic volunteers provides a living history lesson as well as a fun, enjoyable experience that is perfect for the whole family. While its smallness and charm are part of its allure, it would be wonderful if more people not only knew about this but joined in and attended and supported its events. This is not a commercial venture but a labor of love by those that support it. I personally wish them great success as they provide such a meaningful and valuable service to the public.

I was born and raised in Bensalem where the Bears are out of. I signed my 5 year old son up for football and 3 weeks in am so disappointed. The first practice we had we were told that there were no coaches for the 5 year team and they were asking parents to step up, ok no problem a few did. I was set off right away that the association itself didn't have coaches but like I said not really a problem. I have been given little if any information about anything going on, examples: games, fundraisers, pep rallys. They have held 2 parent meetings to my knowledge and we were expected to leave our children alone on one field and walk several fields over to hear nothing that was of importance. I am very disappointed in my decision to have my family become a member of this association and will seriously reconsider for next year.

I am a volunteer Adoption Counsellor and Cleaner of the Facility. I am there weekly and can see the true dedication the Staff has to improving the quality of life of the animals they serve. The Staff attends to medical concerns and behavioral issues. Each animal is behaviorally screened so that he/she is placed in a home that will be a great match. It isn't an easy task and some animals are more difficult to place than others. All staff and volunteers remain optimistic and do their best to help their top priority which of course is the animals. The animals, from the largest dog to the smallest mouse are kept in a clean environment with adequate food, water, toys and bedding to make their stay as positive as possible. My daughter and son-in-law adopted a husky mix 2 years ago and they believe that he is the best ever and are grateful that he was brought to Washington County Humane Society as a stray and taken care of until they "found "him.

There are two faces to Southwest Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank AKA Feeding America Southwest Virginia. <br>The well-constructed public facade is of a caring, well-organized "Christian-based" non-profit that exists "to eliminate hunger in Southwestern Virginia." This, of course, is the public face; the façade. <br>The lesser-known, well-hidden face is quite different. <br>It is this latter manifestation - the true face, if you will - that we address. <br>It is the organization that, for years, forced workers to work mandatory overtime, yet refused to pay overtime, per their own Employee Handbook, and, of course, in blatant violation of Federal Labor Law. They instead hid behind the veil of the pretense of "flex time": the employee may - or may not - be given some time off weeks, months, even a year after the accumulated overtime. Not "time-and-one-half" paid overtime within their payroll period, but a fraction of the time worked over the 80 hour pay period. We the US Department of Labor to examine payroll for the period 2005 to 2010 alone, the "non-profit" would be forced to pay former and current employees considerable sums in back overtime pay. <br>Bear in mind that when operating as Second Harvest Food Bank, the organization and its then-chairman, Pamela Irvine, were investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The local news reported that after a lengthy investigation, the US Attorney "declined prosecution" - a far cry from exoneration. <br>Katrina was a PR boon for Mr Irvine, who gave press conferences before a wall of pallets of bottled water donated for the victims of Katrina. Yet, despite two employees volunteering their time to deliver tractor-trailer loads of said water, not a drop reached Louisiana. The water - some 114 PALLETS - remained stored in the Salem, VA warehouse until the need had long passed. Yet, they had served their purpose well in newspaper and television press conferences. <br>Clothing and blankets donated to America's Second Harvest, Southwestern Virginia were simply tossed into a large dumpster. <br>Roanoke College's annual Potato Drop routinely yielded a full tractor-trailer load of double stacked bins of donated sweet potatoes; 90% of which were allowed to rot in the warehouse, before the Director of Operations had the leaking, moldy bins transferred to box truck in the lot, to be hidden from view of USDA inspectors. <br>A substantial percentage of this Food Bank's donations have ended up in the local landfill. <br>Tons of venison donated by Hunters For The Hungry were disposed of annually. Food that was intended for hungry families ended up "in the dump." <br>Likewise, there is never a mention of other food pantries, churches, charities, and soup kitchens that have been deprived of even a fair share of contributions, due to the sheer greed of this massive corporation (whose battle cry has always been "Poundage! Poundage!"): Local bakeries that one contributed half a box-truck load a week to Second Harvest were convinced to donate their entire lots. End result? Other entities were deprived of bread; Second Harvest received MANY TIMES more bread that it could hope to distribute; an entire half of an enormous cooler (the half referred to being some 30 by 80 feet, four racks high) being overstocked on a weekly basis with many PALLETS of bred that ended up being donated to local hog farmers. <br>Second Harvest/Feeding America: eliminating hungry swine in Southwestern Virginia. <br>During a yearlong pay rate freeze due to the onset of a disastrous economy, employees were nonetheless treated to the uplifting news that Pamela Irvine had been promoted from Chairman to President and CEO, with a reported salary increase from $68,000 to $89,000 a year, a new vice-president was hired "so that Pam can devote more time to PR" at a reported salary of some $50,000 a year, and the Board of Directors were gifted with new BlackBerries. <br>Yeah. Rough economy. For some, at least. <br>A Class A driver with a excellent record was unfairly terminated after severe freeze/that conditions caused aged asphalt to depress under the tandem, causing a 3 foot by 4 foot pothole. Yet, said pothole was a veritable goldmine for another Feeding America "manager," who claimed $25,000 in damages (over twice the quoted figure to have the entire lot redone in structural concrete). Yet, more favored employees received not even reprimands for totaling vehicles in avoidable situations. <br>Not surprisingly, said driver was offered the equivalent of three-month's wages to sign an affidavit agreeing that the unjust termination was a "resignation," after undesirable facts began to emerge. Said driver refused. <br>While the Operations Manager and personnel director casually brushed reports of a manager's sexual harassment and perpetual racist comments aside, such apparently caught up with him when attention was brought to some activities and procedures at Feeding America. Said manager was forced to resign (managers are rarely terminated, despite the severity of the offenses), and the Operations Manager left immediately without notice. <br>In time, other violations of America's Second Harvest/Feeding America Southwestern Virginia shall be brought - at long last - to light. <br>

Nazareth Farm has been around since 1979 and I was there from the start and I am still involved with its ministry today. This is a testament to the great work they do with the poor of Applachia.

Roanoke Valley Cool Cities Coaltion is a perfect example of the positive impact a grassroots organization can have in a community. Everything they do is volunteer driven. There are no paid staff and no financial motivation for Board members. This organization gets results because of hard work, dedication, in-house expertise on environmental and energy issues, and the willingness to do the daily work in the trenches to help make a difference.
