I have the pleasure of serving on WINC's BOD and have been a volunteer for 5 years and have delivered injured wildlife for treatment. Every day I am truly amazed at the work the Animal Care Staff and volunteers perform. The joys of watching an injured or sick animal improve and move to a larger enclosure, enabling the bird to spread its wings or swim makes us all smile. Imagine witnessing a rehabilitated Bald Eagle, with a wingspan wider than the height of our Animal Care Manger, being released and soaring away brought tears to all our eyes.
Our Education Department throughout the year connects with over 25,000 people of all ages, by educating how to help and protect our wildlife. One of our long term board members said, "The animals need us." We have been Connecting People and Wildlife through Rehabilitation and Education since 1994, and treated over 45,000 animals. We admit all species except skunks ( due to DNR regulations).
WINC is open 365 days a year operating completely through fundraising efforts. Causes: Animals, Environment, Environmental Education, Wildlife Preservation & Protection
Mission: To provide wildlife rehabilitation to Wisconsin wildlife with the intent to release back to their native habitat, conduct research designed to further the positive impact of rehabilitation, and provide quality community education programs and services.
Target demographics: Injured, ill, and orphaned wildlife and the public who cares about them
Direct beneficiaries per year: 2581 animals representing 132 species from 104 cities. WINC fielded over 10,000 phone calls and presented 117 education programs to 26,000 people
Geographic areas served: Southeastern Wisconsin
Programs: Wildlife rehabilitation to Wisconsin wildlife with the intent to release back to the native habitat, research to further the positive impact of rehabilitation, and education programs and services to educate the surrounding communities on how they can interact with the wildlife around them.
