Watching the incredible work of Educate the Children is an inspiration! Their efforts to help women and children in the foundation’s targeted areas has local, regional and international impacts that will make positive change lasting decades.

Stole the house of an elderly lady and evicted her and her family the week of Christmas in the coldest weather ever.

I started volunteering with the WOC in the middle of 2019, helping to plan their end of year Gala. Since then the center has overcome so many challenges with the changing COVID-19 landscape. As a digital marketing specialist I try to donate my time in the form of website and social media consulting as well as serving as a member of the fundraising committee. I have been humbled and impressed time and time again by the staff and the volunteers as the WOC preservers through it's challenges. This mission of the WOC is truly one that I believe in. It has been both an honor and a privilege to work with such motivated members of our community as a board member and a volunteer.

The Hangar Theatre is an amazing resource for Ithaca, the Finger Lakes Region, and upstate NY. The quality of the mainstage performances are phenomenal. The sets, costumes, and building are top notch. The education programs are superb.

The Mariposas are doing something unique to the island and unique among the culture; paying attention to young women, their needs, their education, their training. It is an organization run and led by women- domestic and international. They forge relationships with the participants and the community and investing in this organization is investing in a grass roots movement. They are creating a positive shift in the way women are valued, and the way they value each other. This ripples through generations and communities and lasts longer than the organization ever will. I am proud to have invested a year of my life in this organization and working with the Cabarete community and their young women. Hopefully, I can do it again one day!

When a ninety-year old member of our Quaker Meeting signed up for an AVP weekend, it inspired me to do the same. Over the decades since, I've seen AVP's work transform the lives of plain folks like me, school children, current and formerly incarcerated persons, trauma victims from Rwanda to El Salvador to Indonesia. AVP volunteers go where angels fear to tread--and release the divine angels inside the most feared and abused people. Now, on my fixed income, donating to AVP nourishes me more than groceries do.<br>New Nancy

The Institute for Circlework is unlike any non-profit I‘ve worked for in the past. Founded in 1976, the Ithaca Concert Band in Ithaca, New York was formed to provide live, quality musical performances at places accessible to all people of Tompkins County and to offer local musicians a challenging and rewarding musical experience in an encouraging environment. To this day, the band carries on its original mission by playing free indoor & outdoor concerts in and around Ithaca, as well as at fundraisers for charitable organizations and local events such as picnics and carnivals. The band has also done outreach to area schools through its Adopt-A-Band program that promotes lifelong music by having young musicians perform a concert next to seasoned players who have chosen to make music part of their adult life. In many cases this experience allows those students the opportunity to perform pieces and have a band experience that may not have been possible in their own public school music program. The Ithaca Concert Band is made up from musicians from all walks of life who share the love of playing their instrument and making music. As a board member and a parent of a student at UCNS, I can say there is no other school like it. Our teachers truly accept each student where they are and for who they are. The hard work of play is the essential work of children, 3-5 year olds learn how to navigate the world, be friends, protect themselves, and identify their emotional and physical needs (and so much more); play is where the basics of math, science, and language are established. Ellen and Bev Have created this "lab " to allow children to find their way and make their mark, gently, personally, in their own time. I feel so privileged to be part of this community and hope others looking for play-based pre-school in the Ithaca Area will fund UCNS.

The GIAC program and the staff are absolutely amazing! I cannot say enough about this program. The staff are not only camp counselors, or employees...they are confidantes, positive role models and sometimes all that a child has to look forward to for the day. They have created an atmosphere where all involved feel accepted. They are given the freedom to be what they want to be, and most importantly to be proud of who they are. Brandon, Travis, Ms. McBean, Rahmel....these are just a few of the adults that I've had the pleasure of interacting with. There are many more that I pass by and see the same thing throughout the building. They are all meant for this position! They love what they do and it shows. GIAC is the best thing that Ithaca could invest in for our children! THANK YOU GIAC!

I just gave to be part of the #GivingTuesday movement. And want to be part of making a gift that reaches the whole community.

This organization takes in and cares for all types of wild animals in New York State, including bats, which require special care. They seem to be very caring with all of their patients. They also educate the public about various species.

This non-profit group has been instrumental in raising local and national awareness to the hazards of fracking (horizontal hydraulic fracturing). In the face of the industry coming into NY, they have organized concerned citizens, protested, and worked to help pass local regulations. One action was Sandra Steingraber's thirtydaysoffrackingregs.com/letters to the DEC, which CEDC helped publicize, and which culminated in a definite public influence on the DEC's recent decision to hold off on fracking for now. Many, many people are being informed through the work of this group. The protest at Albany this week, partly through the informing efforts of the CEDC, boasted more people than any prior environmental protest in New York.

The Ithaca Youth Bureau, and in particular the small staff of individuals who make up the Recreation Support Services have had a more profound impact on our family than any other program we have participated in with our children. As any parent with special needs children will tell you, you learn to appreciate the small things that come with every day. And every single day at camp here has brought incredible relief, joy and happiness to us as we have watched our boys interact and play with the campers and counselors. My family is eagerly looking forward to next summer!

Energyteachers has an undeniable commitment to energy education. They sent one of their representatives to observe, participate, and aid in facilitating one of our three-day teacher/student workshops. His fluency with energy production/usage and his understanding of the physics that underlies wind, water, and solar energy was a valuable contribution. We also benefitted greatly from his expertise in pedagogical strategies, like emphasis on constructing models, for scaffolding energy concepts. Beyond this, Energyteachers also lent us equipment for a student wind activity and a demonstration which clearly illustrated the principle of induction.

I'm an advisor, donor, volunteer -- and community member. <br><br><br> <br><br><br>For most of my life I've been eating what comes via the grocery chain. Processed food and mostly long-distance food that keeps looking better on the outside with less and less nutrition on the inside. My grandmother was the last in our family with an 'urban garden'. It's taken a lifetime to get it -- we are what we eat. Drive-through convenience isn't worth trading away real food; wellness is grounded in what we eat; not the pills that we pop. <br><br><br> <br><br><br> In my grandmother's time there were lots of local farmers capable of delivering great food. Local farms are appearing again. Maybe it's because the way we farm now has destroyed a third of our topsoil. More likely the way we farm and eat now can't be sustained. <br><br><br> <br><br><br>I get it: Slow food not fast food; buy local food; support local farming. Get to know food; appreciate those who make it possible to have local food. <br><br><br> <br><br><br>Local food doesn't work without committed, economically viable local farmers. Groundswell is the seedbed to grow committed, local, organic small farms again -- farmers who are connected to the people who want and need their food. Groundswell is about learning to farm through successful local farmers and enabling new farmers to succeed. It's also about cooperation, collaboration and connectedness. <br><br><br> <br><br><br>Groundswell isn't about high-tech/high return - make a quick buck. It's about creating slow growth, value business. This is a well run organization, helping Quakers in the high country of Bolivia afford higher education, and for some to board in the city to complete their secondary education. The Bolivians are also expanding Alternatives to Violence (AVP) work in prisons and community.

Since my experience with Tompkins Community Action was limited, I'm only giving four stars - but I was impressed with everything I saw! I interned as a member of a grant-writing team for four months, serving the Family Self-Sufficiency program in the Housing division. The program really impressed me. TCAction works as a partner with struggling families, not as a temporary provider. Their programs help families to get off of assistance in the long-term and become independent. They welcome and encourage input from those they serve. Overall, this organization seems very focused. They know who they serve and what the community's needs are, but they're also open to change. TCAction has been around for over 40 years, which shows it is an adaptable and effective non-profit.
