I received a call one evening last year from my neighbor asking what they could do about a baby squirrel that had wandered up on their front porch. I had heard of a great volunteer for Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation that worked in our area and said I would try and reach him. I called Jeff and within 10 minutes he was at the house prepared to help us with the baby squirrel. He evaluated the poor little thing and said it was dehydrated and needed his help. We had prepared a box with some soft grass so he scooped it up and took him away. I have heard so many people had wonderful experiences with Jeff and his knowledge of wildlife. I was so impressed with Jeff's caring that I contacted Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation a few days later and signed up as a volunteer and a donor. I have met some wonderful people who work and volunteer there, it's a great organization.

I started volunteering at WRR this past summer, occasionally helping out with chores in the animal hospital kitchen & laundry facility, or with diet preparation for the various animals at the refuge. I have been very impressed with the dedication and efficiency of staff & apprentices; no time & no donation is wasted -everything is used efficiently to provide a better life for the animals at this facility. EVERY animal is treated with great respect, regardless of its "cuteness". WRR deserves every penny and every minute of your time!

I’ve been rescuing wildlife with WWR for a couple of years now and I can’t express the dedication the team within has for each and every animal brought into it’s care. I work on a golf course and we have wildlife of all kinds, which is exactly where my journey with WWR started. I have had several rescues and have had to call Leon or David in the middle of a shift and have Leon come out directly or have David find a volunteer to come pick up what’s injured or orphaned. Last week or so Leon came out to pick up a little Toad that was injured, so if that says anything about the dedication the workers at the WWR have for the Wildlife on our Planet……. That should.

I have been volunteering at their San Antonio facility for a few years now, helping with the care of countless injured or orphaned baby birds, opossums, and squirrels. Its a great experience working with them, and I’ve learned a lot from the knowledgeable staff. The work they do is amazing, giving all of these animals a second chance at life. I know first hand how much time, effort, and resources go into saving these animals, and the people who work so hard to save them truly care. WRR is a great non-profit that will take in any injured wildlife that needs their help, no matter the species. They deserve all the support they can get.

The level of commitment towards injured, exploited, and neglected animals is beyond impressive. I have experienced it first hand when I drop off injured animals to there facility, call them to report a dying animal laying next to the road, or participate in the care of animals. My personal experience as a volunteer that transports every Friday injured creatures from San Antonio to there facility in Kendalia, is that of patience and hope that must be fueled by immense love towards animals. Always looking at ways to become more efficient in there treatment of animals as to help more and bring awareness of the importance that wildlife plays in our planet, in our city, in our lives.

WRR is an amazing non-profit. I’ve volunteered with helping hands which involved meal prepping/cleaning for the wildlife at the Sherman location. I’ve had the honor to transport produce to the Kendelia sanctuary. Also transported wildlife in need of care to the Sherman location. You learn so much from the amazing team who genuinely cares for wildlife. I’m grateful for all those who donate their time and monetary donations. The wildlife truly deserves our tender, love and care. Let us come together and help the wildlife.

I found an abandoned Easter chick in my apartment complex one year & needed to find a safe place for the little one. I found WRR through Google & dropped the chick off that evening. Everyone was so nice! As soon as I found myself with some free time I signed up to volunteer. Their orientations are jam packed with information & really start you off on the right foot. From rescue & transport shifts, feeding, cleaning cages & the n.e.v.e.r.e.n.d.i.n.g. laundry. Everyone on campus is there to make sure you succeed & are always great about taking time to make sure you're confident in your tasks, even though they are SO busy ALL of the time. Every single one of these folks is a rock star.

i am a donor, started out feeding baby birds, then rescue and transport, I now can observe and report. capture and transport small injured or sick animals. makes me feel like I have been taught a lot by staff and I know my limits. I also like teaching others about wrr. I got to transport a hummer sitting sidekick on the highway. learned how to get a fawn out of a iron gate by turning him sideways, many other stories. I love reading the newsletter and lynns stories also.

I contribute to Wildlife Rescue and Rehab because they helped me with a fledgling dove years ago. We found them injured in the backyard with blood and bones showing through on their wing. The dove really bonded with us, sat with us, and followed us around. They even tried to follow our cat and dog into the house through the doggy door, so we knew we needed to provide them with help. The man who answered the phone at WRR told us that they were well-equipped to deal with the dove and would get x-rays done and eventually transfer the dove to a flying cage before releasing them. It was hard to give the dove to them, but I had total faith that this was the right place! I now volunteer to give back.

I used to volunteer at WRR, and I can tell you, these people really care about these animals. I helped with transport and capture of injured wildlife. It didn’t matter if it was the smallest little baby bird, or a huge raccoon, they did their best to nurse those animals back to health. They don’t turn anyone away, and if you call for help, they will do their best to send out a volunteer, like me, to come help. The well being of these animals is first and foremost at their facility. If the animal cannot be released back into the wild, it has a forever home there at the sanctuary. And those animals that live there are given the best and closest environment to their natural one. No visitors are allowed, so they have their privacy and limited exposure to humans. WRR’s founder is adamant about that, and not all wildlife rescues can say the same. More donations can come from allowing visitors to view the animals, but donations never come before the needs of the animals here. You can rest assured the animals come first at WRR.

I traveled the world for 50+ years - for the outdoor adventure and telecommunications businesses, but volunteering at Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation is Kendalia has been the most rewarding experience of my life. Their dedication to life, work ethic, and best practices are off the charts worthy! Do what you can to help them; ...to help all their animals; ...and their example for the rest of us to follow.

I started volunteering a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation Over 8 years ago and I have come to believe that they are the predominant rescue authority in our country. Being a volunteer has allowed me to see the inner workings of this organization and how frugal they are with the money they receive and how it is distributed to the animals if do the animals there are hundreds hundreds of thankless jobs being done every day here by people who are dedicated to serve animals for the rest of their lives. I am lucky enough to be able to come here and help out. All of my best friends in my life live at the wildlife ranch and I couldn't go more than a week without seeing them I would suggest that if your life is looking for any kind of purpose to get ahold of the wildlife ranch and try to volunteer with them because they really need people right now. This is a 5 star facility at least, though it should be a 10 star facility because of the service rehabilitation and reintroduction to the wild that their caretakers can give!

I have volunteered for WRR for almost two years doing wildlife rescues, feeding babies, transporting wildlife, and participating in fundraising and other events. it is a wonderful organization which rescues animals in distress in a wide area around San Antonio, nurses them to health and releases them if they can be returned to the wild. They also are a sanctuary for local wildlife as well as exotic wildlife which cannot be returned to the wild. Employees and volunteers are quite dedicated to this cause and work long, hard hours to ensure that animals are cared for properly. I personally have rescued deer, squirrels, birds, skunks, opossums, raccoons, and other animals. I love the work and feel it is very rewarding to know I am giving these animals a chance to return to their natural habitat where they can prosper once again.

Greatest job i have had thus far. I interned at WRR for 3 rough, hot, and completely amazing months last summer. From fawn feeds to taking middle of the night calls for animal emergencies, every day was an adventure and I truly believe in WRR and all the work they do!

WRR has picked up a baby grackle and a juvenile skunk from me, and has sent volunteers to help me catch an injured pigeon. Their drop-off center in San Antonio has also taken in a couple of baby birds I've taken them, including a woodpecker. They do a tremendous job of taking care of our wildlife and their compassion and willingness to "do what it takes" is an inspiration.

We witnessed a fawn get hit by a car this summer near Luckenbach. We picked it up and called WRR. We have property nearby and knew how to get there but when we didn't arrive as quickly as I thought we would, the volunteer called to make sure we knew how to find them. Our little fawn was quickly accepted into the triage area as information was taken. They explained the procedure of rehabilitation to us and we left it in their expert care. I was able to check on it a couple of days later just to make sure it survived. I have made donations to WRR and feel that my money is put to good use. I also placed an order for t-shirts for Christmas. I received a phone call to let me know that they were out of a size. They were able to make a substitution with appropriate credit promptly. Package arrived on time and in good condition. We are thankful to have a place like this nearby. Everyone we have encountered there has been friendly and helpful.

Over the years my family has been able to rely on Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation when we have found or come across injured wildlife, or wildlife that needs help. The staff at WRR are always kind and caring. WRR is a valuable resource to our surrounding community.

Years ago, I took a hummingbird with a broken wing to WWR. They had several at the time, and I was impressed by the scope of the operation. Since then, I have been a supporter. Besides feeling wonderful about all the Animals who are saved and given meaningful lives, I am a fan of the touching stories written by the founder about the Animals and their lives. These stories have meant so much to me; they show me the great law of Love that rules the universe. Please support this wonderful organization.

I interned at WRR for almost two years, and it will probably be one of the most memorable experiences of my life. WRR helped me learn so much about the species we cared for, and you were able to see the actual results of your care, whether it was weaning a baby cottontail off of milk (which is no easy feat), seeing a grackle mend a broken wing and fly again, or hacksawing a fence to save a trapped deer. WRR is incredibly ambitious in its desire to save lives and increase awareness. They are able to be so because of the incredible support they receive through the hard work of eager volunteers, the generous donations of members, and the long hours of constant care from interns and staff.

It's should give everyone a warm feeling inside to know there is an organization as caring for our animal friends as Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation (WRR) in Kendalia, Texas. The center is completely staffed by volunteers and the life, to include quality of life, of animals is their first priority. The WRR strives to rehabilitate wildlife and return them to the wild, but if that's not possible, they provide a home for and expert care for the animals. Animals give us so much, and WRR gives back to nature all they can. Bless them all!

We had a problem with skunks a few years back and being animal lovers we sure didn't want to hurt them in any way. Just wanted them to leave our backyard and WRR didn't hesitate to come help us. They provided us a cage to capture and they would come and relocate skunks. We captured 9 that year. I support WRR every chance I get!! I love to get Lyn Cuny's newspaper and hear her stories. They are always wonderful animal stories.

I am a previous WRR volunteer and have seen the magnitude of effort and work that goes into helping these animals. It's truly amazing! Animals range from lions to baby birds. I can't say enough great things about Ms. Cuny, the staff and volunteers. These animals have found refuge from horrible conditions. If they can't be released back into their environment, then they are cared for with respect on grounds. Many kudos to WRR!

I am actually a donor and a client served. WRR has helped us previously with an injured humming bird (my husband couldn't believe an organization would aid a humming bird but they didn't hesitate) and just this last Sat. night we drove by a deer with it's leg caught in a barb wire fence and badly injured. They drove over an hour to the location at midnight to rescue her. I've toured their facility (I have volunteered at their annual fund raiser) and these folks do is absolutely amazing. There is not a living creature they do not help in anyway they can. Not only are they compassionate but they are organized and effective. I have and will continue to support them any way I can!

The wonderful people at WRR in Kendalia, TX, are the most caring of any animal organizations I ever encountered. They are selfless and always respond promptly to any requests for assistance 24/7. They tirelessly work to raise funds and truly use donations for the welfare of the animals in their care. THE BEST! I will continue to support them in their heartfelt mission.
