I've had the opportunity to mentor eight students thus far. I like the ability to choose specific ethnicities to support, because I know that helping men and women like me, I can make a real difference because I have a better understanding of the cultural, linguistic, and educational challenges they may be facing. The biweekly mentoring suggestions provide great ideas for discussions and remind me to check in on my protege if I haven't heard from them in awhile. I have learned just as much from my proteges as they have learned from me, and it's great to hear from some of my past proteges to learn how they are doing and to share in their successes.

conferences, where I've been able to meet some of the staff, and in the genuine thanks I've gotten from the students who I have helped.

Wow -- where do I start? I first became aware of ABI when I attended GHC 2006. It was the first conference I had attended that was female dominated, and what a difference it made! Instead of being exhausted by constantly having to put myself "out there", I could relax and enjoy the technical and non-technical conversations, sessions, and networking. I came back to work invigorated, motivated, and energized. ABI has also been invaluable in hosting a community for Latinas in Computing, where we've been able to reach out to Latinas throughout the world to promote and develop them as they move through their career stages. The staff is dedicated and tireless in their advocacy, and their leading edge research has greatly benefited the women in my organization. Participating as part of the conference team has been tremendously rewarding, knowing that you are positively impacting the lives of women in computing.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

win Powerball so I could fund this organization as it truly deserves -- a couple of orders of magnitude greater!

Funding -- there are tech companies out there who make beaucoup bucks that could rapidly accelerate the rate of progress with a little more funding.
