Our specific service site was in a village in the state of Chiapas in Mexico. The name of the village is Bautista Grande. Our main service project was to help reconstruct the kitchen at the village school there. Since it is such a close-knit community, the school is a big meeting place for the entire village, so they often have meetings and parties there, and the kitchen is an important thing for both the children, and the adults. It was great to be able to work with them toward reconstructing the kitchen so they can eventually have a clean, efficient, and healthier way to prepare their food.
There is no better satisfaction then that of serving your fellow man.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
many ways. One way that this organization has had results is by having large groups going to service sites in several different areas around the world. This organization helps in meaningful service toward others, and one of it's main goals is to help others get caught up in service.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Make sure that there is very clear communication between any rotary clubs and the service sites and this organization. The only downfall that we had on the trip is that the village wasn't expecting us the first day that we showed up, and it kind of put us behind schedule a bit. But, because of the positivity and flexibilty of everybody in our group, we were able to just take it in stride.
