Southwest Key Program, Inc.
April 26, 2011
I have worked on many projects with this culturally competent organization. They really are invested in the community they are serving and they seek to change the lives of those people in the community. They are doing great things at Southwest Key and I had the oppotunity to intern there during my Masters program. One of my favorite projects was the spoken word and hip hop project. The goal of this project was to improve the relationship between at-risk youth and their family, and law enforcement. Improving this relationship is crucial for our young people and law enforcment to work together rather than be enemies. Southwest Key is making strides in this area.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
seeing the students in the hip hop classes change their view about law enforcement and begin to view them as someone they can call on.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
expand its services to the entire Austin area so that they could impact and change more lives.
