National Relief Charities
April 14, 2011

There are various organizations dedicated to supporting American Indians and Alaska Natives pursuing higher education. I am writing a review for the National Relief Charities as a scholarship recipient and donor of the American Indian Education Foundation (AIEF). I recommend this scholarship program to all American Indian and Alaska Native undergraduate and graduate students working toward enhancing our tribal communities. I strongly encourage and thank current and potential donors for their continuous support of AIEF and the National Relief Charities.

I applied to the AIEF scholarship and completed my bachelor degree! AIEF has contributed to my success of graduating from the University of New Mexico with my Bachelor in Arts in Sociology. AIEF is a foundation that pays attention to the financial and emotional needs of students. During the time I was receiving the scholarship from AIEF, I also received a Christmas stocking made by some of the tribal elders from one of the communities. It was a thoughtful and priceless gift which showed me that AIEF cared about my college success and wanted me to graduate.

Pursuing a college education is a challenge for the student, parent and tribal community since students will be growing in different areas of their life. Students come from all walks of life with different lived experiences. Being miles away from their families and support systems – college may become a lonely place until a support system is found or created. AIEF showed me encouragement to finish my college education and sent me small tokens of care and love. What an amazing push and gift to let students know that finishing their education is needed! I have personally experienced the results of AIEF and the National Relief Charities as a scholarship recipient. I am proud to say that I would have struggled during my undergraduate education if it wasn’t for AIEF. I encourage and give my utmost support to AIEF – higher education is needed in our tribal communities to enhance our wellbeing and promote healthy change. My overall rating is TEN+++ ENOMOUS STARS! Please continue to support National Relief Charities and their AIEF program.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I received not only monetary support but supplies and gifts! AIEF is a unique scholarship because the org. is extremely thoughtful and cares about the students and communities they serve. For example, one year I was lacking basic school supplies such as pencils, pens, and highlighters. I was pondering about taking out a small loan from the university. To my surprise when I came back during the winter break, I received a package from AIEF filled with academic supplies! This gift came at the right time.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The only recommendation I would suggest is to send out student progress reports to donors because it shows them and the students that you care.
