As a recent retiree, I have been looking for a place to volunteer that I felt was truly worth my time and energy. After investigating several other options, I came across ACT. From my first contact with the organization, I felt that it was a well-run operation. After attending the mandatory training for volunteers, I was convinced of 2 things: (1) there is a great need in our community for service to women and children (and some men) living in abusive situations; (2) ACT is uniquely poised with experience and personnel to address this need. ACT has many dedicated and loyal volunteers for a reason - it is a great organization!
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Although I am new to this geographic area, I have seen how important a women's shelter can be in other parts of the country.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
try to hire more office help so that the current highly skilled staff could devote more time to working in the community on preventive programs, etc.
