Creative Arts Guild, Inc.
March 13, 2011
For nearly half a century in Dalton and surrounding communities, the Creative Arts Guild has been a highly visible center for engagement with the performing and visual arts, whether through participation, study, or simply enjoyment. Its programs in dance instruction have been especially far-reaching--both of my daughters were enrolled in them, one for the full duration of her elementary and high school years--but the CAG is also noted for its provision of instruction and exhibition opportunities for local painters and sculptors and for its music teaching and performances. It was one of the first local agencies to reach out to the large Latino population which began moving into our area in the early 1990's and to open avenues into their rich cultural heritage for the general public. About the only major area of the arts where the CAG is relatively inactive is theater, but this is already served by two community theaters, each of which has a full season of offerings.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
dance instruction for my daughters (see above), tumbling classes for my grandson, and years of attending various CAG events.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
work aggressively to partner with other agencies or institutions involved in the arts, especially the local college.
Board Member & I have been a patron of CAG for more than 30 years, and I served as its president in 2000-2001. Since then, I have been a member of its Board of Trustees.
