CYPRESS CREEK FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
February 20, 2011

When I moved to the area almost four years ago, one of the first things I planned to do was to look up theBarbara Bush Library. A single-parent friend of mine from church told me the library had been a wonderful resource place to spend time when visiting with his daughter. Finding it early on was a wonderful experience for me as well. I found a great community meeting place. I also found a source for so many books that I requested retrieved by a hard working staff of cheerful volunteers. Shortly after visiting, I became a volunteer in a variety of capacities.

Answering an open invitation, I attended a Friends of the Library board meeting, mostly out of curiosity. I found the group so friendly and passionate about providing hours and funds for the branch to carry out so many rewarding programs and community events for all ages and stages. I have served on the board for three years now and find it interesting to "go behind the scenes" to see what it takes to keep a thriving community library going in spite of county budget shortfalls and shrinking staff. I consider Barbara Bush Library Friends to be one of the lifelines of this busy community resource.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

This organization strives to make the job of the staff a little easier and provide funds and hours to offer a variety of programs to the community. I find it extremely rewarding to have helped achieve the goals of this group.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The only changes I would hope to see is to have the group grow in size. Getting the word out to the community of the needs of this library is vital and it becomes a challenge with other great organizations vying for the same funds and time slots.

MY ROLE:
Board Member & Volunteer at book fairs and author visits, community open house, and staff luncheons. I served as Membership VP and currently as President. I helped with school district book festivals and represented the group at NW Chamber of Commerce meetings.
