Spina Bifida Association Tri State Region
February 14, 2011

I started volunteering with SBRN in March of 2009 and I am still there! It's been really nice to have people to reach out to that completely understand your situation, meaning having spina bifida. You meet friends that just "get it.", which I don't feel happens too often. It's also very convenient for me to have the office right in Flemington because I can take the Link there to volunteer.

I wanted to start volunteering at SBRN because I have spina bifida and I wanted to see what,, if anything I could do for them. Turns out I have gotten a lot out of that in return. I've made friends, received support from the organization, and had the opportunity to attend many different activities, all centered around spina bifida!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've had the Family Support team go with me to doctor appointments, check up on how I'm doing, etc. They really take an interest in who you are, aside from the spina bifida. But if you need something, especially support, they're right there to help.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would put the word out there more about SRBN. I know we're doing that and branching out more, but the way I even found the number for SBRN was on the Internet. I didn't really know anything about it before I called about volunteering.

MY ROLE:
Volunteer & Volunteer.
