OFA has assisted nearly 100 families in adopting children from the Democratic Republic of Congo and now is working to help the many children who will not be adopted. They are building schools and providing clothing, food, diapers, formula, and access to medical care to orphans in several orphanages throughout DRC. OFA is 100% run by volunteers and every penny raised goes directly to the children -- no offices, no advertising budget, no staff salaries. It is truly a great organization and one that I am happy to support with my time and money.

MY ROLE:
Volunteer
February 7, 2011
My husband and I adopted our son through OFA in 2008. At the time, OPFA was quite small, and Daniel was the 7th child whose adoption was facilitated by Jilma and OFA. Jilma is an amazing, tireless force for the children of Congo, who has the best interests of the children and country above all else. While traveling with her, I watched in awe as she faced down bureaucratic obstacles and dificult personalities with grace and iron will. OFA continues to be the charity we choose to support first and most because we believe so entirely in the work that they are doing and in the tireless efforts of Jilma and her posse of volunteers.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
My beautiful, loving and healthy child.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Enable Jilma to devote herself to this work fulltime -- though it would be impossible, as she refuses to take any pay for her thousands of hours, and she is highly valued in her "day" job as an attorney.
