TRIANGLE COMMUNITY CENTER INC
June 4, 2009

The TCC is a labor of love. Some 18 years ago it was founded by a group of dedicated people who wanted to create a place where the LGBT community could meet and support one another. We stand strong today in that endeavor. I have been a member and on the board of directors for 6 or 7 years. The TCC has provided a rich experience in my life: making friends and making a difference to the lives of others in the community. Each time I go there I see people who are finding each other, sharing experiences, growing together. I have seen transgender people find their true expression and the courage to live their lives authentically; young people find peer support; all types finding spiritual calm; people having fun together, celebrating each other. Fairfield County, CT without the TCC would be like NYC without Central Park! Where else would we find a breath of fresh air?? I give the TCC 5 stars because I see how the board pours its heart and soul into the organization. I see the effect it has on our community, but maybe more importantly, I see how much more effect it could have with a broader membership base and better funding!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the people who have overcome great obstacles of self identity and blossom into their true selves, fully self expressed and newly confident that they live a peaceful and rewarding life.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

INSIST that everyone that knows about it become a member and give til it hurts! :-)

More feedback

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the people I have met, befriended and worked with.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

incredibly dedicated -- devoted to providing a place where LGBT people can feel safe and experience personal growth and transformation.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build a big beautiful center and flourish in all areas -- building community, delivering education, strengthening its voice. Have a staff to run it and keep it open all hours of the day. Expand programming and services to serve the needs of all!

Ways to make it better...

more people would participate in a constructive way. It is easy to criticize but difficult to build!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding and reaching EVERYONE in the community. After years of being involved in the TCC I am still amazed to meet people who do not know it exists, or even more frustrating, knowing people who know about it and don't get involved in a constructive way.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The people who engage pro-actively in keeping this Center alive are angels. From board members to program volunteers and group facilitators, they all have vision and dedication and give freely of their time and expertise to keep the TCC alive!

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
