Review for Arts & Business Council Inc., New York, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I guess I see the Arts and Business Council of NY as a service to the non-profit arts field, rather than a charity, in the classical sense of charity. ABC/NY provides professional volunteers (legal, financial, marketing, HR, etc.) to these small organizations with limited budgets. It helps to recruit and train potential board members,; there are regular seminars in all facets in the running of a non-profit organizations. This is all available to the members of ABC/NY. I have worked over several for many of their members assisting them with HR issues, some very short term, some longer, and every single one of them has been extremely gratifying, and I have met many wonderful people. I have recommended friends and will continue to do so whenever there is a need for more volunteers.

Since retiring almost 10 years ago, I have worked with several non-profit organizations through ABC/NY - dance companies, theaters, music organizations, and a long-term assignment at one of the prominent museums in NYC which continues to this day. Through ABC/NY I have met people and done work that have given me great satisfaction and introduced me to a world in which I was only a spectator for many years. It's been a wonderful experience, one that I hope will continue for many more years.

Role:  Volunteer & So many things over 10 years - I helped create a personnel policy manual for one organization, assisted a director of another in resolving several staff issues, acted as an unofficial ombudsman to an organization experiencing staff problems, and many more.
